We are currently seeking enthusiastic Math, Reading and Writing teachers to join our Delta/Tsawwassen team.
About the Position
As a Sylvan instructor, your primary responsibility is teaching. There is no lesson planning, report-card writing or meeting with parents. You will receive training on Sylvan’s curriculum, teaching methods and instructional tools.
Our classes run Monday through Friday from 2:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Morning classes may also be available during the summer and school breaks.
We are seeking permanent part-time instructors who can commit to teaching at least two days per week.
The ideal candidate is passionate about education and understands that many students attending Sylvan need support not only with their academic skills but also with developing confidence in their abilities.
Responsibilities
- Teach Math, Reading and/or Writing using Sylvan’s established curriculum
- Supervise, engage and motivate students during instruction
- Support students from a variety of cultural backgrounds and learning environments
- Evaluate and document student progress
- Communicate students’ academic needs and progress to the Centre Manager
- Help create a positive, encouraging and productive learning environment
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Fluency in English
- Previous teaching or tutoring experience
- Strong communication and classroom-management skills
- Dependable, skilled and comfortable working with children and teenagers
- Reliable transportation to the Delta/Tsawwassen centre
- Availability to teach a minimum of two days per week
Job type: Permanent part-time Pay: $18.75–$20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 6–24 hours per week
