Expert Geophysics

Newmarket

Expert Geophysics Limited is a leading provider of airborne geophysical survey services, delivering advanced electromagnetic and magnetic data acquisition solutions to mineral exploration and resource companies worldwide. Headquartered in Newmarket, Ontario, we combine cutting-edge proprietary technology with deep technical expertise to support exploration projects across the globe.

Job Type: This is a full-time role consisting of 40 hours per week. There is an existing vacancy for this position.

Activities

- Develop 3D models and manufacturing-ready engineering drawings for structural and mechanical components and assemblies.
- Design brackets, mounts, housings, interfaces, and other mechanical hardware for onboard equipment and subsystems.
- Select materials, fasteners, and joining methods appropriate to structural loads, mass targets, operating workplace, manufacturability, and other design constraints.
- Package hardware within tight mass, center-of-gravity, clearance, thermal, accessibility, serviceability, and other constraints.
- Apply design-for-manufacture and design-for-assembly (DFMA) principles to develop parts that can be practically fabricated, inspected, assembled, serviced, and revised.
- Work directly with prototype hardware, including assembly, fitting, drilling, measurement, troubleshooting, modification, and rework.
- Support ground and flight testing, including inspections, instrumentation installation, configuration documentation, data collection, and post-test troubleshooting.
- Document design decisions, calculations, test results, and design changes so that work can be reviewed, reproduced, and built upon by the rest of the engineering team.
- Participate in occasional field testing to validate designs and aircraft systems.

Core Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Robotics, Aerospace, Mechatronics, or a closely related engineering discipline. New graduates are welcome.
- Strong 3D CAD capability in a mainstream package such as Autodesk Fusion, Inventor, SolidWorks, or CATIA.

- Ability to produce manufacturing-ready engineering drawings, including dimensions, tolerances, fits, hole patterns, fastener specifications, and basic GD&T.;
- Practical understanding of mechanical design and machine elements, including bolted joints, brackets, shafts, bearings, fasteners, spacers, inserts, and bonded joints.
- Working knowledge of common engineering materials such as aluminum alloys, titanium, carbon-fibre composites, and engineering polymers, including appropriate material selection and joining methods.
- Ability to perform basic engineering calculations for stress, deflection, fastener loading, factors of safety, and structural sizing.
- Basic experience with FEA, including applying appropriate loads, constraints, contacts, and mesh settings, and critically interpreting the results.
- Understanding of design-for-manufacture and design-for-assembly principles and the practical considerations involved in taking a design from CAD to fabricated hardware.
- Comfortable working directly with physical hardware and using common hand tools and measurement equipment.
- Strong technical communication skills and the discipline to document design decisions, calculations, test results, and engineering changes.
- Ability to work effectively from higher-level requirements while independently resolving routine design and integration problems.

Additional Technical Capabilities The following knowledge and experience are considered assets:

- Technical familiarity with remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS/drones).
- Strong technical writing skills.
- Interest in complex electromechanical systems that combine structures, power, motion, sensing, and control within a single platform.

- Understanding of mass properties and balance, structural load paths, static, dynamic and inertial loading, vibration transmission, and structural resonance.
- Ability to design mounting and interface hardware that transfers loads between subsystems while accommodating equipment placement, wiring, sensors, accessibility, and maintenance requirements.
- Working knowledge of thermal management, including airflow, cooling arrangements, basic heat transfer, and component temperature limitations.
- Familiarity with electrical power systems and appropriate electrical safety practices.
- Experience supporting engineering test programs, including inspections, instrumentation, configuration control, data collection, and post-test troubleshooting.
- Experience working with systems where mechanical, electrical, and software requirements are highly interconnected.

Useful Secondary Skills

- Basic electronics and harnessing familiarity, including connectors, wiring harnesses, serial and CAN-type buses, PWM, power distribution, sensors, and reading electrical schematics.
- Experience with CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, waterjet or laser cutting, 3D printing, or composite fabrication.
- Experience designing components for CNC machining and additive manufacturing.
- Familiarity with CFD, thermal simulation, or other engineering analysis tools.
- Familiarity with open-source flight-control ecosystems and ground-control-station software.
- Experience with engineering test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, load cells, thermocouples, vibration sensors, or data-acquisition systems.
- Basic scripting or programming experience in Python, MATLAB, C, or C++.
- Student design-team experience or a capstone project involving the design, fabrication, integration, and testing of real hardware.

Note: Applicants may request accommodation at any time during the recruitment process. Pay: $55,000.00-$70,000.00 per year
