Build relationships. Solve technical problems. Grow a business. Are you an experienced electrical professional who enjoys working with customers as much as you enjoy solving technical problems?
Horst Systems is looking for a Technical Sales Representative – Electrical Systems to help us grow our electrical business. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who can combine strong electrical knowledge, business development, and relationship-building to become a trusted advisor to our customers.
You’ll work with customers across agricultural, industrial, manufacturing, and commercial environments to understand their challenges, identify opportunities, and recommend practical electrical, controls, automation, and related solutions.
This is not a transactional sales role. We’re looking for someone who can understand how a customer’s operation works, ask the right questions, develop the right solution, and build relationships that lead to long-term partnerships.
This position is ideal for someone who thrives on authentic relationships, enjoys hands-on work in agricultural or commercial settings, and wants their efforts to directly contribute to Canada’s food supply chain.
What You'll do:
1. Grow the Business
- Develop new customer relationships and identify opportunities to grow Horst’s electrical business.
- Build and maintain a strong sales pipeline through prospecting, referrals, customer visits, and relationship development.
- Expand business with existing customers by understanding their evolving needs.
2. Build Customer Relationships
- Become a trusted technical resource and advisor for customers.
- Visit customer sites to understand their operations, challenges, and requirements.
- Provide responsive, professional service throughout the sales process and beyond.
3. Develop Technical Solutions
- Assess customer requirements and recommend appropriate electrical, controls, automation, and industrial solutions.
- Interpret electrical drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Translate technical challenges into practical, safe, and commercially viable solutions.
- Work with internal electrical, service, operations, and project teams to develop solutions.
4. Prepare Proposals & Quotes
- Prepare estimates, quotations, proposals, and other sales documentation.
- Work with internal teams to ensure solutions are accurately scoped and priced.
- Balance customer value with project profitability.
5. Manage the Sales Process
- Maintain accurate customer and opportunity information in the CRM.
- Manage sales activities, forecasts, and pipeline reporting.
- Negotiate within established pricing and discount guidelines.
- Ensure a smooth transition from sales to project execution.
What We’re Looking For We’re looking for someone who brings technical credibility, commercial curiosity, and strong interpersonal skills. You may be a great fit if you have:
- A 309A or 442A Electrical Licence, Electrical Engineering Technologist diploma, or equivalent industrial electrical experience.
- Experience in an industrial, agricultural, manufacturing, construction, or electrical contracting environment.
- Robust knowledge of industrial electrical systems, controls, automation, and power distribution.
- The ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Experience in technical sales, estimating, project coordination, customer service, or business development is an asset.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- A consultative approach to sales—you’re interested in understanding the problem before recommending the solution.
- Strong business judgment and an understanding of costing, pricing, margins, and profitability.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple opportunities at once.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM systems.
- A valid Class G driver's licence and the ability to travel regularly to customer sites throughout Ontario.

Application question(s):
- This role is focused on long-term relationship building and consultative selling, not quick, high-volume transactional sales. Are you comfortable working in a role where building trust and maintaining customer relationships is more important than closing fast deals? Briefly describe why this is important in this industry.
- Describe your experience working in a sales environment where deals take weeks or months to develop rather than being closed quickly.
- This position is a salaried role with benefits and performance bonuses, but it does not include individual sales commissions. Are you comfortable working in a compensation structure that is not commission-based?
