Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated Toolmaker to join our team in Guelph. This role is vital to ensuring efficient operations within our facility. Join us and contribute to a company renowned for its durability and innovation.

Hours of Work: 4:20 PM – 2:20 AM, Monday to Thursday

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

- Layout, fabricate, assemble, and/or repair a variety of tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and gauges.

INSTRUCTION & SUPERVISION:

- Works closely to support department supervisors.
- Works from detailed oral or written instructions, specifications, sketches, and blueprints of any complexity.

TOOLS & EQUIPMENT:

- Toolmaker’s hand tools, precision measuring equipment, and standard or special tool room machines such as lathes, mills, grinders, shapers, CNC milling machines, etc.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DIRECTION EXERCISED:

- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety procedures and policies, and maintain quality specifications.

SCOPE OF WORK & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

- Take and comprehend direction/instruction from the Tool Room Lead Hand.
- Lay out and perform operations to produce or repair tools such as jigs, dies/progressive dies, fixtures, gauges, as well as special machine tools, components, prototypes, etc., from drawings, samples, and tool instructions.
- Participate in Continuous Improvement activities.




- Adhere to all ISO procedures.
- Ensure all required codes, regulations, and safety standards are met.
- Report any variation to safety, quality, or production guidelines and procedures to the supervisor.
- Assist with inspections of close-tolerance work.
- Set up current tools for testing purposes.
- Produce simple drawings and use shop mathematics.
- Utilize shop floor tools—drills, lathes, grinders, mills, etc. (manual or CNC).
- Be familiar with shop techniques, general shop equipment, and shop-run tolerances.
- Perform standard die troubleshooting and repair.
- Provide ongoing support to production.
- Possess a Certificate of Qualification and Apprenticeship in a recognized Machinist or Tool & Die trade.
- Read and interpret CAD, sketches, and blueprints.
- Demonstrate proven experience in fixture design and build.
- Exhibit strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
- Maintain a high level of customer service and shop support.
- Be familiar with CMMS and Work Order Systems.
- Work with minimal supervision.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

- Basic computer skills
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Attention to detail
- Relevant Certificate of Qualification (C of Q) and 3 years’ experience




- Red Seal Certification in Tool & Die or Machinist trade
- Ontario College 3-Year Tool & Die Certificate
