Role Description The Traffic Operations Engineer is a full-time, in office role located in Kelowna, BC. This role is responsible for planning, analyzing, and optimizing traffic operations, including signal timing, intersection performance, and corridor flow, to improve safety and efficiency on city streets. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing traffic studies, interpreting data from traffic counts and monitoring systems, and preparing recommendations for roadway, signal, and signage improvements.

The Traffic Operations

Engineer collaborates with internal departments, consultants, and the public to address traffic concerns, support capital projects, and ensure compliance with engineering standards and regulations. The role also involves preparing technical reports,



responding to inquiries, supporting incident and construction traffic management, and contributing to long-term transportation planning initiatives.

Qualifications

- Strong analytical skills and troubleshooting abilities to interpret traffic data, diagnose operational issues, and develop effective engineering solutions.

- Customer service skills to communicate clearly with residents, colleagues, and stakeholders, and to address traffic-related concerns in a professional manner.

- Familiarity with Linux and Windows environments to work with traffic management systems, modeling tools, and data analysis software.

- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related discipline; eligibility for or registration with a professional engineering association is an asset.

- Experience with traffic engineering principles, traffic signal design and timing, and transportation modeling or analysis tools.

- Knowledge of relevant road safety standards, traffic control devices, and municipal or provincial transportation guidelines.

- Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills for preparing technical documentation, reports, and presentations.
