Role Description This full-time User Interface Designer role is a hybrid position based in Toronto, ON, with a mix of in-office and work-from-home days.
The User Interface
Designer will create intuitive, visually engaging interfaces for web and mobile experiences that support OLC’s bite-sized, gamified learning model. Day-to-day responsibilities include designing layouts, UI components, and design systems; producing high-fidelity mockups and interactive prototypes; and collaborating with product, UX, content, and engineering teams to ensure designs are consistent, accessible, and aligned with brand guidelines. The role involves translating user and stakeholder requirements into clear interface designs, iterating based on feedback and usability insights,
and supporting implementation by working closely with front-end developers.
The designer will also participate in design reviews, contribute to documentation, and help evolve OLC’s visual language over time.
Qualifications
- Strong user interface design skills, including experience creating responsive, accessible UI for web and mobile products.
- Visual design capabilities with proficiency in layout, typography, color, and component-based design, supported by a polished portfolio.
- Ability to produce explicit mockups and interactive prototypes using modern design tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD).
- Understanding of user experience (UX) principles and interaction design, with experience collaborating on user flows and wireframes.
- Basic familiarity with front-end development concepts (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) to support effective collaboration with engineering teams.
- Relevant post-secondary education in design, HCI, digital media, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work in a hybrid environment and contribute to cross-functional teams.
- Experience in edtech, e-learning, or designing for educational audiences is an asset.
