THE PROSPECT The UGDSB is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Digital Support Services team for a temporary full-t****ime opportunity in the capacity of Communications & Physical Security Infrastructure Specialist.
Location: Guelph Board Office (500 Victoria Road N, Guelph, ON)
FTE and Hours: 1.0 FTE; 35 hours per week
Base Hourly Pay Rate: $32.72 - $39.90 per hour; wage rate effective September 1, 2025
Labour Market Adjustment: A 9% labour market adjustment to be applied to the base hourly pay rate; hourly pay rate inclusive of the market adjustment is $35.67 - $43.49 per hour; wage rate effective September 1, 2025

Reporting to the ICT Infrastructure Manager, the Communications & Physical Security Infrastructure Specialisthas responsibility for administering, supporting, and optimizing the organization's communications infrastructure including Voice, Cellular, Public Address, and emergency communication systems. The role also has responsibility for the administration, support, and lifecycle maintenance of the organization's physical security systems, which includes surveillance (video, vape detection), school lockdown, and physical access control systems.
This role entails expert analysis, troubleshooting, systems monitoring, day to day maintenance and client support. The incumbent delivers primary support for the related hardware, software, telecommunication, and physical security systems, including working with third party vendors when necessary. This role elicits and defines requirements, architects solutions, researches and evaluates vendor platforms, and implements secure solutions.
The incumbent plays a vital role in incident investigation and response, providing evidence, technical expertise, and collaboration to authorized staff.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to tasks and duties in the following areas:

- Lockdown Systems Design and Maintenance
- Design, install, maintain and ensure the overall performance of the call center technology
- Emergency Communication Systems Support
- IT Service Delivery
- Tier-2 ICT Support
- Financial Management and Regulatory Compliance
- Technical Documentation and Training
- Other duties as assigned
Experience and Qualifications:
- Post Secondary Degree/Diploma in Information Technology, Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications/Network Technology, or a related field, or a combination of education and relevant work experience as deemed equivalent by the board. Post secondary degree in a related field preferred.
- 3+ years of experience supporting enterprise telephony and communication systems, including designing, installing, and maintaining voice networks (call routing, analog/digital lines, voice gateways), reporting on IP call-processing, fax, and automatic call distribution (ACD) systems, and troubleshooting, maintaining, and optimizing call center and telecommunications services.
- 3+ years of experience supporting enterprise physical access control and surveillance systems, with a strong background in system integration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and upgrades, as well as supporting incident investigations by correlating physical access, video, and system logs.
- 2 years of experience supporting public address systems, lockdown systems, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and emergency communication protocols, including ensuring PA system reliability through maintenance and troubleshooting, integrating lockdown systems with PA, PLCs, physical access control, surveillance, and IT platforms for coordinated response, and configuring, supporting, and troubleshooting lockdown systems in compliance with emergency protocols.
- Technical leader with Tier-2 ICT support experience resolving complex issues across communication and security systems, administering Azure Entra ID with SCIM integration, driving root cause analysis and system optimization, and leading investigations in support of principals, security and law-enforcement.
- Experienced in supporting ICT project delivery from assessment to deployment, developing technology standards and evaluating RFPs, documenting system changes, and planning and communicating change activities to stakeholders.
- Experienced assisting with budget planning, cost analysis, and procurement for telecommunications and security systems, while managing vendor relationships, negotiating contracts, and monitoring performance for compliance.
- Knowledgeable in telecommunications and security regulations, with experience preparing documentation, risk assessments, and audit responses to support compliance, as well as developing user training, awareness programs, and mentoring junior team members.
- Certifications such as Verkada Certified Engineer (VCE), Avaya IP Office™ Platform Design (ADRA-0008) Avaya IP Office™ Platform Administrator (ASAC-0013), Avaya IP Office™ Platform Support (ACSS-3000), Administering Avaya Call Management System (ASAC-0021), Hikvision Certified Associate (HCA) and additional certifications related to voice, PA and lockdown system preferred.
- Experience with Avaya telephony products,
Carehawk and Telecor public address systems, Verkada and Hikvision security systems, and proficient in TOPdesk ITSM for incident, problem, and change management.
- Due to the travel requirement of this position, a valid Ontario Class “G” driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle is required (a Board vehicle may be provided for inter-site travel).
- Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, or overtime as required. Ability to lift 50 pounds.
