Summary The Agronomist provides support, service, and knowledge regarding crop inputs, as well as offering agronomic support to the Neerlandia Co-op grower customers.
Product Knowledge and Sales
- Provide complex support and knowledge of agronomic products to local co-op customers.
- Using a full understanding of information on agronomy, provide complex agronomic information and advice on seed, pest identification and crop protection, and crop nutrients/fertilizer so customers can make informed decisions based on reported findings.
- Perform complex farm customer service responsibilities, including field scouting, agronomic troubleshooting, crop planning, fertility, and crop protection recommendations.
Personal and professional development:
- Actively maintains up to date knowledge of current industry best practices and trends and communicates relevant information to others.
- Adhere to standard operating procedures and safety protocols.
- Communicate and maintain relationships with customers and support the Agro Manager in preparing and achieving budgeted goals.
- Communicate clearly and frequently with the Agro manager to ensure inventory is in place to match demand and assist with the operations of inventory management.
- Participate and lead projects within area of expertise.
- Provide input into action planning within their functional area.
- Understand and anticipate short-term and potentially mid-term, complex customer needs and conduct related needs assessments.
Education and Experience
- Degree/Diploma in Agriculture or the Sciences.
- Must be eligible for acceptance into the Alberta Institute of Technology in a practice area that is applicable to the Neerlandia Co-op.
- Certified Crop Advisor is an asset or the ability to obtain certification.
- 1-3 years of agronomy in-field experience is an asset.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to lift, push, and pull upwards of 50lbs.
- Ability to enter and exit trucks, forklifts, and other equipment as required
- Ability to operate a forklift (training and certification provided)
- Knowledge of agronomy products including their properties and appropriate use
- Provide support and encouragement as a team player/leader
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks.
