Your Opportunity
Nestled near the Porcupine Hills, Claresholm is a small, tight knit community close to many outdoor activities including fishing, hiking, and camping. Reporting to the Program/Site Manager with Integrated Supportive & Facility Living (ISFL), the AHN is responsible for coordinating the collaboration of the multidisciplinary team of health care providers to provide high quality, safe care to the 100 residents living at the facility. The AHN works closely with the Site/Program Manager, Care Manager, and Clinical Nurse Educator on quality improvement projects, staff learning needs, the implementation of policies/procedures/best practice, as well as site specific initiatives.
The AHN provides leadership and clinical direction to the frontline nursing team (RNs, LPNs, HCAs), acting as a role model for the department, setting the tone of a positive work environment with a goal of enhancing interpersonal relationships and overall team effectiveness. The AHN also provides support for both patients and their families. Responsible to support staff, assist to remove system barriers and problem solve complex system issues.
Coaches and mentors new charge nurses. Intermittently required to participate in direct patient and family conversations related to admission and transfer options. As the AHN, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff.
In addition to providing frontline nursing care, the AHN will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Position is in Claresholm, approx.
136km south of Calgary city limits and 80 km North of Lethbridge.
Description
As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers.
You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
Current Basic Cardiac Life
Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications
Bachelor degree required. Minimum 3 years experience in a continuing care/supportive living setting within the last 5 years required. Minimum 2 years of charge nurse experience, preferably within a continuing care/supportive living environment, in the last 5 years required.
Strong organizational, interpersonal, and leadership skills with the ability to manage difficult and challenging situations while working harmoniously within the interdisciplinary team. Demonstrated solid conflict resolution skills. Able to work independently or collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary health care team.
Strong
English language skills, verbal and written. Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position-sit and stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, bend, reach, kneel to assist with patient care, work at a computer for prolonged periods of time.
Preferred Qualifications
Current certification in IV Initiation, IV medication administration, and Phlebotomy considered an asset.
Experience working with the geriatric population.
Nurse
Clinician experience. Recent experience with Connect Care and NetCare. Rural nursing experience considered an asset.
Experience with family centered and collaborative practice approach and philosophy preferred.
