The School of Criminology is one of the largest in Canada and on the Pacific Rim and is one of the leading criminology and criminal justice teaching and research centres in the world. The School has a complement of over 30 full time faculty members, a large number of adjunct professors and associate members, over 1,000 declared majors, minors and honours students, and more than 100 graduate students.

About the Role

Provides confidential secretarial, administrative, and research support to the School Director (Chair). Informs and updates the Chair & Departmental members on all matters regarding academic policies, including the Tenure & Promotion Committee (TPC), and all committees under the jurisdiction of the Chair. Processes faculty grant and leave applications, prepares appointments and documentation required for new and visiting faculty; conducts elections, and assists in the ratification process.

Qualifications

High school and one year of post-secondary education or equivalent including training in secretarial practices, software applications and book-keeping. 3 years of experience. An equivalent combination of formal education, certificate/program of study and experience is acceptable.

- Positive working knowledge of University policies and procedures.
- Excellent knowledge of office procedures.
- Excellent knowledge of bookkeeping practices and the ability to maintain accurate records.
- Excellent knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation.
- 60 wpm typing skills with a high degree of accuracy.
- Excellent organizational, analytical reasoning,



and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to use word-processing, spreadsheet, database, web browser and presentation applications (i.e., MS Word, MS Excel, FileMaker Pro, CQ5,) at an intermediate level.
- Ability to use PeopleSoft financial systems (i.e., SIS, FINS, FAST) at an intermediate level.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work collaboratively as a team member.
- Ability to assign and check the work of other positions.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise initiative, and discretionary judgment.
- Ability to conduct research, understand and communicate external grant rules and regulations.
- Ability to work flexible or additional hours, as required.
