Position Overview

We are seeking an associate lawyer with 2-5 years of experience in commercial litigation, insolvency & restructuring, creditors' rights and/or construction litigation. This position offers the prospect to work alongside established practitioners in a growing litigation practice, who are committed to hiring and developing the best and brightest legal and business professionals.

About Us

Banack Deren LLP is an Edmonton-based law firm with roots dating back to 2017. Founded by Jason Banack as HGA Law and initially operating as part of the HGA Group, the firm began with a corporate and commercial practice and expanded to include a litigation practice in 2024 when Mandi Deren joined the firm as a partner. In 2026, the firm entered its next chapter when it rebranded as Banack Deren LLP, reflecting the firm’s distinct identity, values and vision for the future.

Before building Banack Deren LLP, Jason and Mandi each spent many years practicing at large downtown Edmonton law firms. · Able to manage a diverse caseload, with a focus on some combination of corporate/commercial litigation, insolvency, restructuring, creditors’ rights, and construction litigation.

· Able to conduct thorough legal research, and draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and other court documents.

· Able to participate in applications, questionings, hearings, and trials, providing strategic support and representation.

·Is technology-savvy, adaptable, and eager to embrace innovative tools and streamlined processes in a modern legal practice.

· Able to communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, and other parties.

· Willing to collaborate and work closely with senior lawyers to develop case strategies and progress matters forward.

· A member in good standing of the Law Society of Alberta;

· Called to the bar in 2025 or earlier.
