Job DetailsJob Location: Simcoe, ON N3Y 4J9Salary Range: $40,000.00 - $90,000.00Toyotetsu Canada Inc, Simcoe, Ontario has an opening for an Automation Engineering Specialist. This position is part of the Manufacturing Advancement Team and will support advanced automation initiatives across manufacturing operations. This position reports directly to the MAT Management Team.

Job Summary: The Automation Engineering Specialist is primarily responsible for leading and supporting advanced automation projects including AGV/AMR systems, SCADA system projects, Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS), robotic integration, industrial controls, and plant communication networks. These projects include research, concept development, specification, procurement, installation, commissioning, production launch, and ongoing technical support to improve safety, quality, productivity, material flow, and equipment reliability.

The Automation Engineering

Specialist will serve as a technical resource and project leader for automation initiatives that support TTCA’s long-term smart factory direction. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, system-focused, and comfortable working across Engineering, Production, Maintenance, MAT, IT, Safety, Quality, and external suppliers to integrate new technologies while ensuring stable production and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to: Lead and support advanced automation projects including AGV/AMR implementation, SCADA systems, ASRS integration, robotic systems, automated material handling, and plant-wide automation initiatives. Develop project concepts, scopes of work, technical specifications, schedules, budgets, and implementation plan for automation projects. Coordinate design, procurement, installation, commissioning, acceptance testing, and production launch of automated systems and supporting equipment.

Work with Engineering, Production,



Maintenance, MAT, IT, Safety, Quality, and suppliers to ensure automation systems are safely integrated into production operations. Support integration of automation equipment with PLCs, HMIs, SCADA platforms, industrial networks, databases, and plant communication systems. Troubleshoot automation system issues, identify root causes, implement countermeasures, and drive improvements to system reliability, uptime, and performance.

Evaluate recent automation technologies and propose cost-effective improvements that support safety, quality, productivity, labor efficiency, material flow, and long-term scalability. Define operating parameters, control requirements, safety requirements, system interfaces, and standard work for new automation equipment. Support documentation for automated systems including drawings, spare parts lists, preventive maintenance requirements, troubleshooting guides, training material, and lockout procedures.

Provide technical support for smart manufacturing initiatives such as digital check sheets, RTM/Ignition, e-Kanban, production monitoring, data collection, and future Industry 4.0 projects.

QualificationsKey skills and Characteristics: Strong knowledge of automation systems, controls integration, material conveyance, and manufacturing process improvement.

Experience with AGV/AMR systems, robotic applications, ASRS, SCADA, PLC/HMI systems, industrial networks, or automation software is an asset. Ability to understand how equipment, software, controls, material flow,



and people interact as one complete system. CAD experience (Inventor, AutoCAD) is desirable for layouts, equipment concepts, racking, tooling, and project support.

Strong skills utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint) with the ability to learn new automation platforms and digital tools quickly. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Possess excellent leadership, teamwork, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.

Able to read and interpret equipment layouts, mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, pneumatic schematics, controls documentation, and network architecture drawings. Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams and with external suppliers.

Must Require: Degree/Diploma in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, Mechatronics, Automation and Robotics Engineering, or equivalent work experience Minimum 5 (five) years of hands-on engineering experience in a manufacturing environment Working knowledge of PLC-based machine control systems, HMIs, industrial networks, sensors, safety circuits, and automated equipment integration Solid understanding of automotive manufacturing processes, equipment safety, technical documentation, project management, and continuous improvement methods is an asset Our company subscribes to the operating philosophy of continuous growth and improvement, providing the best quality, value and service to our customers, encouraging mutual trust and respect through teamwork and focusing on safety, our environment and our community.
