About the Role

Ajax Convention Centre is looking for a reliable, hardworking, and energetic Banquet Porter to join our events team. The Banquet Porter plays an essential role in ensuring our event spaces are set up, maintained, flipped, and taken down efficiently and to the highest standard.

This is a physically demanding, fast-paced position that involves frequent and repetitive heavy lifting, moving furniture and equipment, and working quickly between events. The ideal candidate takes pride in their work, works well as part of a team, and can maintain a high level of efficiency even during busy event periods.

Key Responsibilities

- Set up banquet rooms and event spaces according to floor plans and event requirements.
- Move, lift, carry, and arrange tables, chairs, staging, equipment, and other event materials.
- Complete room tear-downs promptly and efficiently following events.
- Flip event spaces between back-to-back events, often working within tight timelines.
- Assist with moving and positioning banquet equipment throughout the venue.
- Ensure event rooms, hallways, storage areas, and equipment are kept clean, organized, and safe.
- Work closely with the Banquet and Event teams to ensure setups and changes are completed on schedule.
- Follow instructions, floor plans, and established setup standards.
- Safely operate and handle equipment and furniture.
- Maintain awareness of surroundings and follow all workplace health and safety procedures.
- Perform other duties related to event setup, teardown, and venue operations as required.

- Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining a professional event environment.
- Previous experience in banquet, hospitality, events, warehouse, moving, or a similar physically demanding environment is an asset, but not required.

This position requires frequent

- Heavy lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling.
- Repetitive movement of tables, chairs, equipment, and other event materials.
- Bending, reaching, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
- Fast-paced movement between event spaces.
- Working under time constraints, particularly during room flips and consecutive events.
