Summary

We are seeking a dedicated Lead Hand to join our Building Services team in Hamilton, Ontario. This hands-on, field support role will advance our mission by helping to deliver our Youth Build Program in conjunction with the local school boards.

Responsibilities

- Help to mobilize work sites and perform daily job planning, set-up, and maintenance activities to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment.
- Greet teachers and students upon arrival and set a positive tone for the day’s scheduled activities.
- In collaboration with teachers, provide daily instruction to students and other site volunteers on how to safely and effectively deliver on assigned scopes of work.
- Work side-by-side with teachers and students throughout the day to offer ongoing instruction, avoid and correct defects, and model efficient and safe build site practices.
- Track and monitor progress towards assigned project objectives, relative to budget and schedule, and communicate regularly with management.
- Help to deliver the start of term orientation and safety presentation(s) and participate in end of term and end of year program evaluations.
- Operate hand and power tools and other construction equipment to safely and effectively complete assigned tasks in accord with scope, timeline, and budget.

Qualifications





- Basic understanding of residential construction, building repair, and home renovation acquired through a two-year college diploma or equivalent work experience.
- Formal education and/or three-plus years experience providing hands-on instructional training to volunteers or youth.
- Working knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and ability to read and understand construction drawings and plans.
- Exceptional verbal communication skills and ability to break down complex assignments into discrete, easy-to-understand tasks.
- Self-motivated, outgoing personality with positive attitude and desire to generate a social impact in the Hamilton community.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work.
- Ability to manage workload, take direction, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
- A proactive attitude towards problem-solving and safety
- Sound judgement and ability to prioritize tasks.
- Physically fit and able to perform manual labour in a variety of work environments.
- Access to a reliable vehicle with valid G class license and clean driver's abstract.
- A clean driver's abstract and ability to pass a police check.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $55,970.00-$69,194.00 per year
