The Relationship Centre

Kingston

Kingston, Ontario | In-Person | Adaptable Caseload

We’re looking for a child therapist who sees more than behaviour.

Not simply someone who is open to seeing children, but someone who understands that children often tell us what is happening through play, behaviour, relationships and big feelings long before they can explain it in words.

The Relationship Centre has an established need for in-person child therapy in Kingston, and we are looking for an experienced therapist who wants to make this an important part of their clinical work.

Our Kingston office includes a dedicated play therapy space, so you are not trying to make child therapy fit into a standard adult therapy room.

We provide referrals, administrative support, clinical resources and the infrastructure of an established practice, while giving therapists considerable autonomy in how they practise.

Current therapist compensation is $108–$126 per standard 50-minute clinical session, based on experience and clinical level.

A little about us The Relationship Centre is an established psychotherapy practice serving Kingston, Belleville and surrounding communities.

Our Kingston office opened in 2025 and continues to grow. We work with children, teens, adults, couples and families, with a strong clinical foundation in attachment, relationships and trauma-informed care.

Our guiding belief is how we relate changes everything.

With children, that means we rarely look at behaviour in isolation.

We are curious about the child underneath the behaviour — their relationships, development, nervous system, temperament, family experiences, strengths and the things they may not yet have words for.

We also recognize that meaningful child therapy often involves helping the adults around the child understand what is happening differently.

We care about doing excellent clinical work while creating a practice where therapists are trusted, supported and able to work in a way that feels sustainable.

Who we're hoping to meet

We would particularly like to meet you if you:

- Are a Registered Psychotherapist, Registered Social Worker or similarly qualified regulated mental health professional in Ontario
- Have meaningful clinical experience working with children
- Have training or experience using play-based approaches to therapy
- Want to provide regular in-person therapy in Kingston
- Understand child development and adapt your approach to the age and needs of the child

- Think relationally and understand the importance of attachment and family relationships
- Are comfortable involving parents or caregivers when it supports the work
- Can work with concerns such as anxiety, emotional regulation, grief, trauma, family change, school difficulties or relationship struggles
- Understand that behaviour is often communication rather than simply something to be changed
- Appreciate consultation while also being able to practise independently
- Want to build a meaningful child and family caseload over time

Training in Play Therapy is especially welcome. Experience with any of the following would also be valuable:

- Attachment-focused therapy
- Trauma treatment
- Emotionally Focused Family Therapy or other family-based approaches
- Neurodivergent children, including ADHD and autism
- Parent consultation and caregiver work
- Adolescents and families

What the work looks like Your work would primarily involve:

- Providing in-person play therapy to children and youth
- Using play and developmentally appropriate approaches to help children express and work through their experiences
- Developing thoughtful treatment plans based on the needs of the individual child
- Involving parents or caregivers when clinically appropriate
- Helping caregivers better understand and respond to what may be happening for their child
- Maintaining timely clinical documentation and professional standards
- Consulting with colleagues when it strengthens the work

For an experienced child therapist, there is also room to shape your caseload around the work you most enjoy. That might mean developing a stronger focus in areas such as trauma, neurodivergence, attachment, parent-child work or family therapy.

These are opportunities rather than expectations. We want to understand the work you do particularly well and help you build more of it.

What TRC takes care of

You are not responsible for finding your own clients.

TRC provides

- An established and growing referral stream
- Dedicated administrative support for inquiries, billing and client coordination
- Active practice marketing and community outreach
- A dedicated play therapy space in our Kingston office,

with toys and resources to support developmentally appropriate work with children
- Support building a caseload around your areas of expertise

- Optional therapist consultation groups
- Direct billing for many insurers and third-party programs
- Flexibility in shaping your clinical schedule within the needs of the practice

There is considerable autonomy here. We want experienced therapists to be able to practice like experienced therapists. At the same time, you are not practising entirely on your own.

How we work together

Our values at TRC are Relational Integrity, Commitment to Growth and Wholehearted Presence.

For us, those values show up in ordinary things: following through with clients, doing thoughtful work, being willing to ask for consultation, communicating when something needs attention, remaining open to learning and treating people well.

We are not trying to build the biggest practice. We are trying to build a strong one.
