Royce-Ayr Cutting Tools is a Cambridge manufacturer of precision cutting tools. We build custom and standard tooling, including PCD-tipped (polycrystalline diamond) tools, for demanding machining applications, and we have been doing it from the same shop on Sheldon Drive for years.
We are looking for two CNC Lathe Operators to run our Haas and Okuma CNC lathes, turning the tool bodies and shanks that our cutting tools are built on. That means holding a size on a shank, a taper or a body to print, checking your own work, and keeping good parts moving.
If you have run a CNC lathe before, great. If you have not, we will train you. What we are looking for is someone who is careful with measurements, reliable, and wants to learn the trade.
No experience required, and the training goes further than just running the machine: you will be taught to write your own programs in G and M code.
What you will do
- Load and run parts on Haas and Okuma CNC lathes
- Turn and face tool bodies, shanks and tapers to a toleranced size
- Measure your own work with micrometers, calipers and gauges, and hold the tolerance
- Make tool offset adjustments to keep parts in size
- Learn to write and edit your own CNC programs in G and M code, with training provided
- Read basic prints and work instructions
- Change and index tooling, and keep the machine and work area clean
- Deburr, inspect and package finished parts
What you bring:
- Comfortable with measurement and shop math,
including reading a micrometer and working in thousandths of an inch
- Good attention to detail. You would rather check a part twice than pass a bad one
- Good spoken and written English
- Reliable attendance and a willingness to learn
- Able to stand for a full shift and handle parts and tooling by hand
- CNC lathe or turning experience, a machining program, or CAD software such as SolidWorks, Mastercam, Fusion 360 or AutoCAD are all a definite asset, but none of them are required
Why Royce-Ayr:
- Established Cambridge manufacturer in a specialized, high-precision niche
- Group benefits plan, starting after the three-month waiting period
- Steady, on-site day work close to home. No travel and no rotating shifts
- Real training on Haas and Okuma equipment, including writing your own G and M code programs, with room to grow into setup work
The first three months of employment are a probationary period, and the group benefits plan begins after three months. To apply, apply through this posting, email your resume to
