Welland

CNC Operator / CAD-CAM Technician

Location: Welland, Ontario

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Industry: Advanced Wood Manufacturing / Mass Timber

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced CNC Operator / CAD-CAM Technician to join our manufacturing team in Welland.

This is not a basic machine-operator position. The successful candidate will prepare CNC production files with CAD/CAM software and operate the CNC equipment on the production floor.

The role requires someone who understands the full process from a production drawing or 3D model through CAD/CAM conversion, machine setup, CNC operation, quality control and troubleshooting.

Our facility uses Hundegger CNC equipment and Cambium software for machining large timber panels and structural timber components.

Previous Hundegger experience is a strong advantage, but candidates with relevant CNC and CAD/CAM experience from other manufacturing environments are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

- Review production drawings, shop drawings and 3D models before manufacturing
- Convert production information into CNC-ready files using CAD/CAM software
- Prepare, review and adjust CNC programs and machine instructions
- Import and process CNC production files within the machine software
- Check tool paths, machining operations, dimensions and production sequence before running parts
- Set up and operate CNC machinery safely and efficiently
- Select and verify appropriate tooling and machining parameters
- Load, position and process timber panels and components
- Monitor CNC operations and make adjustments when required
- Troubleshoot CNC programming,

tooling and machine-operation issues
- Inspect finished components against drawings and production requirements
- Identify drawing, programming or manufacturing issues before they result in production errors
- Perform basic machine maintenance and daily equipment checks
- Work closely with production, engineering and CAD/CAM teams
- Support continuous improvement of CNC workflows and production processes
- Assist with training junior CNC operators as the production team grows

Required Qualifications

- Previous CNC machine operating experience
- Hands-on CAD/CAM experience is required
- Experience converting drawings, models or production information into CNC machine instructions
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings, shop drawings and dimensions
- Understanding of CNC programming, tool paths and machining processes
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Experience setting up, operating and troubleshooting CNC equipment
- Positive understanding of tooling and machining principles
- Strong attention to detail and dimensional accuracy
- Ability to identify and resolve production problems
- Comfortable working both at a computer and directly on the production floor

Preferred Experience Experience in one or more of the following would be considered a strong asset:

- Hundegger CNC equipment
- Hundegger Cambium software
- Cadwork
- BVX or similar CNC production file formats
- Woodworking CNC machinery
- Timber framing
- Mass timber or CLT manufacturing
- Structural timber fabrication
- Carpentry or woodworking
- Panel-processing machinery
- Automated manufacturing equipment

We may also consider candidates from metalworking or other CNC manufacturing backgrounds with strong CAD/CAM experience and an interest in transitioning into timber manufacturing.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who is comfortable taking responsibility for the complete CNC manufacturing process — not simply pressing start on the machine.

The right person should be able to understand a production drawing, work through the CAD/CAM conversion process, verify that the CNC program makes sense, operate the machine, identify problems and make practical adjustments when required.

An understanding of wood, woodworking or carpentry is highly valuable, but strong CNC and CAD/CAM experience is the primary requirement.

Experience

Required:

- CNC operation: 2+ years preferred
- CAD/CAM: 2+ years preferred

Strong assets:

- Woodworking / carpentry / timber manufacturing
- Hundegger / Cambium / Cadwork experience

Work Location On-site in Welland, Ontario.

Applicants must be able to reliably commute or relocate to the Niagara region.

Pay: $33.00-$38.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week

Benefits

- Extended health care
