The Student Communications Assistant will be engaged in daily tasks to share information with the public, media, internal staff and Council members. This position will rely on their strong research skills and exceptional writing skills to create clear, concise and visually appealing communication materials.
The Communications
Assistant will report to the Director of Strategy and Engagement and work closely with the Corporate Communication and Promotions Officer and will be involved in projects that engage internal departments and external partners.
Requirements
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation, writing and design of communication resources including communication plans, media releases, media advisories, newsletters, flyers, brochures, social media posts and other promotional materials.
- Provide general administrative support including photocopying, filing, responding to correspondence, researching, writing letters/reports etc.
- Assist in planning, organizing and communication of events and special activities.
- Attend events and special activities providing assistance with taking photos, videos and posting on the Town’s social media pages.
- Monitoring media and social media.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must be a post-secondary student, working towards a degree/diploma in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Business or other related program, and be returning to school in September 2027.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel,
Outlook, Power Point).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ontario Class "G2" or “G” driver’s license.
Qualifications Considered Assets
- Experience with Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Canva, Constant Contact, social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) and Hootsuite.
- Experience with photography, videography and graphic design.
- Ability to multi-task with strong organizational skills and time management skills.
Working Conditions
- Duties shall be performed mostly indoors with some exposure to the outdoors.
- Prolonged hours sitting at a desk.
- Manual dexterity to use desktop computer and peripherals.
- Safety equipment as required.
Hours of Work
- Primary hours of work are Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- May be scheduled afternoon, evening, weekend shifts as needed (35 hours per week).
Physical Requirements
- Physical work environment requiring extended periods of walking, standing, and sitting.
