The Salvation

Community and Family Services support work is focused on supporting, promoting, and enhancing well-being of individuals and families as well as assisting immediate needs of clients, donors, and visitors through emergency client assistance, Food Bank, community feeding programs, community referrals, seasonal programs (including Income Tax, Backpacks, Summer Camps, and Christmas) and other programs that are developed to meet the needs of clients and the community.

Community Service

Leadership is responsible for planning, organizing and coordinating social service programs on behalf of a community outreach organization. They oversee the program’s budget and policies regarding participant involvement, program requirements and its benefits. The role will plan, develop, organize, and give oversight to corps-operated Community and Family Services facilities and programs and manage a team of support workers and professionals to achieve standardization and develop outcome measurement tools to determine best practices in a community and family services setting. Provide oversight and leadership to relevant programs and special/seasonal events (such as, but not limited to, Christmas Hamper, Summer Camp, Canstruction, Best First Day), ensuring ministry and program objectives are consistently met within Salvation Army mission, vision, policies, funder expectations, and all legal requirements. In collaboration with the Leaders – research, plan, develop, prepare, and deliver creative and innovative programming designed to address community needs, ensuring ministry objectives are consistently accomplished and that a spiritual focus is applied to program initiatives. Identify gaps in service through trend analysis and develop activities, services and/or partnerships to fill these gaps in consultation with the Senior Leaders. Ensure strong community and local Corps/ministry unit partnerships and collaborations are formed or maintained in order to develop new programs and initiatives. Work alongside Corps/ministry unit leads to create and facilitate integrated programming throughout the area. Operate within effective change-management, organizational development, and staff engagement principles to promote service excellence and develop strong teams. Donor/Community Relations In conjunction with the senior leaders, facilitate the development, implementation, and evaluation of a short-term and long-range strategic community relations plan. Continually develop creative and engaging ways to ensure the Mission, Vision and work of The Salvation Army Community and Family Services is understood and promoted. Seek opportunities to build and develop solid relationships with current and potential stakeholders (businesses, community-based organizations, and other potential partners)

Responsible for the leadership and coordination of the volunteer program for local Community and Family Services, including directing the development strategies for recruitment, training, and retention of volunteers. Liaise with THQ/DHQ Volunteer Coordinator to gain an understanding of all Volunteer Policies &

• Procedures / Best Practices and ensure compliance throughout all London Community and Family Services programs. Provide direction and support to volunteers working within their programs/special events and ensure that they work to achieve the purposes of The Salvation Army. Responsible for preparing the volunteer work schedule for volunteers in programs under their areas of responsibility. Hire, orientate, train, reward, and discipline in consultation with the Senior Leaders ensuring compliance with and Territorial/National/Provincial Standards. Provide ongoing, consistent coaching, performance feedback, and manage the evaluation (including probationary evaluations) of employees they supervise, ensuring that they work together to achieve the purpose of the organization and enhance the ministries of The Salvation Army. Prepare, post, and maintain all departmental work schedules for those supervised in accordance with operational requirements ensuring adequate coverage. In collaboration with the management/supervisory team, develop strategies and recommendations for staff and volunteer development. In collaboration with the management/supervisory team, develop and implement approaches that promote staff engagement and retention. Responsible to develop and maintain a positive working relationship with union stewards and aid in creating a labour management culture of mutual respect. In consultation with the Senior Leaders, assist with the preparation of grant/funding applications. Provide feedback to the Senior Leaders on business and program matters to ensure program excellence through program and outcome evaluation, external consultation, continuous quality improvement and standards of ethical practice. provides input to the Senior Leaders for the preparation of the annual budget. Develop the necessary systems, processes, and tools to better support the facilitation, collection and sharing of knowledge generated from programs, reports, and evaluations. Prepare and submit reports, proposals, program evaluations, and/or business plans as requested to Senior Leaders. Maintain accurate confidential written records, logs of activities, including activity reports and statistical information, are collected for each program and reports are submitted as required and client data in Link2Feed. Prepare, analyze, submit, and act on incident reports and complaints, maintain records of all reports and deal with complaints effectively and in a timely manner.

Responsible to provide administrative and IT support to the CFS team, including maintaining and updating website; managing phone system (including cell phones); ensuring all office equipment is in good working order. Provide administrative support to the Senior Leaders as required, including management of the filing system. Policies, Procedures and Best Practices As required, develop, establish, and implement MU policies and procedures to achieve compliance with Salvation Army policies and procedures, applicable federal and provincial legislation, as well as other legal requirements and best practices; and consult with the Senior Leaders. Ensure that all policies, procedures, and protocols are up to date and meet compliance requirements, reviewing all on a regular basis (minimum yearly). Assist with preparation for any audits and reviews, including risk assessments etc. Understand and work in compliance with the provincial Health and Safety Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures. Identify and implement effective practices for risk management to ensure workplace safety, minimize liability, and uphold the reputation of The Salvation Army and Ministry Units. Ensure that equipment, materials, and protective devises as prescribed are provided and maintained in good condition. Working environment is typically in the office setting in generally agreeable conditions. Driving to various communities and ministry units (valid driver’s license required). Willingness to work evenings and weekends to meet program needs. Flexibility in work schedule is required based on programming schedules. Work in compliance with OH&S; Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures. Ability to provide an original copy of a Background Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required, including Child Check (if appropriate). Completion of a formal post-secondary/college/University program of three academic years in a related field. Minimum of five (5) years of experience, including prior related team lead/supervisory experience, experience working with children and youth and community and social services programs. Strong computer skills and experience using Microsoft Office Suite. Proven ability to manage, coach, and motivate. Knowledge of community-based resources and experience networking with government and social service agencies. Understanding for individuals of diverse social and cultural backgrounds. Strong understanding of community development and a demonstrated ability to create and foster strong relationships with community partners resulting in mutually beneficial collaboration.
