The Program

This October 2026 Taproot will be opening this new group home in the Abbotsford area. This home supports two (2) individuals with developmental disabilities.

The Home Based Community

Inclusion services are intended to ensure the persons serviced supported in the home receive the ongoing support they require to participate in the community in a meaningful way. Some of the activities may include all the residents of the home while other activities may require more of an individualized approach. These services are designed to support persons served to have rich lives within the community and any supports provided will take into consideration the persons served current behavioural, mental health and other disability-related needs, support preferences, and their goals.

The Position

Under supervision, the community support worker (CSW) is responsible for assisting clients of an accredited agency who are living independently with their physical, economic, vocational, recreational, social, emotional and daily life skills development. Assist clients to achieve the greatest degree of independence and quality of life possible.

This position requires membership with CUPE.

Scheduling

Two (2) permanent part-time positions that will each work 30 hours per week

- Monday through Friday 0900-1500

In Your Role You Will

- Participates in assessment, goal setting and program planning (such as Personal Service Plans) for individuals living semi-independently, documents and implements the plan, and provides input into evaluating the program.




- Evaluates client needs and develops short term plans to meet such needs with the active participation of clients and their families.
- Assists clients to function more independently in their own homes and in the community.
- Assists clients with daily life skills, social skills and/or behaviour management. Teaches and assists clients with activities such as grooming, basic cooking, money management, shopping, household safety and pet care. Facilitates physical, recreational, educational, social and vocational activities.
- Recognizes, analyzes and deals with potential emergencies, such as clients’ aggressive behaviour, to minimize potential harm to clients and the public. Reports problems to the supervisor.

- Administers medication to clients in accordance with established policy and procedures.
- Utilizes practices that promote and maintain the health, welfare, safety and security of persons served.
- Reviews and evaluates clients’ progress and make adjustments to programs as required.
- Provides feedback and support to clients and/or their families.
- Accompanies and/or transports clients to such activities as appointments, shopping and leisure activities.
- Provides written and/or verbal reports regarding clients’ daily activities and progress. Ensures all required documentation is complete and accurate.
- Identifies social, economic, recreational, physical, vocational and educational services in the community that will meet clients’ needs. Maintains liaisons with other agencies, professionals, government officials and the community.

Advocates effectively for clients.

- Participates in the OHS Committee as required.
- Operates motor vehicles safely and legally while transporting persons served or on Taproot business
- Prior to confirmation of employment, all applicants must provide a copy of a current Criminal Record Check and/or Government Screening Letter. These checks vary depending on province and sector and will be communicated by the Program Hiring Team.

As An Ideal Candidate You Possess

- A degree, diploma or certificate in one of the humanities, social work or related field.

Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.





- Minimum of one year experience working with persons with a developmental disability and multiple complex needs.
- Valid CPR/First Aid certificate (or ability to obtain prior to employment)
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and current driver’s abstract (hiring subject to abstract review)
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate (i.e. MANDT) certification (or ability to obtain during probationary period)
- Successful candidate must sign an oath of confidentiality, a conflict of interest statement, abuse protocols and a code of ethics statement.
- Experience following Behaviour Support Plans, Safety Plans, and Positive Behaviour Support strategies.
