The Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada are currently seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to fill a position vacancy in our Peterborough Residence as a:
COOK/BAKER
Part time Position
Starting Rate $27.60/hr (increase after successful probationary period)
Position Summary: Receiving direction from the Support Services Supervisor, the Cook/Baker has responsibility for the preparation and serving of high quality, nutritious and delicious food, working with fellow kitchen staff in a leadership role. We operate in a team environment and it is important that the incumbent be capable of helping in all areas of the kitchen to ensure the safe handling of food, and cleanliness and safety of storage and serving areas.
Qualifications / Required Skills
· Competent knowledge of high calibre cooking and baking (pastry an asset), and at least one to three years’ experience as a Cook and Baker in a quality restaurant or institutional kitchen environment
· Excellent customer service skills, attention to detail and strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to follow oral and written direction
· Food Handler's Certificate, knowledge of WHMIS and the Occupational Health & Safety Act
· An understanding of food textures and common dietary restrictions
· Work involves repetitive movements, standing for long periods, and some heavy lifting
· Food Service Worker Certificate would be an asset
Availability to work weekends is a requirement for this role as well as a willingness to work flexible hours or shifts as required, based on operational needs.
A current Food Handlers Certificate is required. Secondary/High School Diploma preferred.
