Position Summary:

Reporting to the Supervisor, Holistic Intake Team, the Indigenous Developmental Services Worker will be responsible for implementing and providing services that combine cultural and mainstream models of healing to families, youth and children. This will involve identifying and conducting child and family assessments for children and families who are experiencing behavioural, psychological and emotional difficulties. In addition, the Developmental Services Worker will be responsible for overall case management, liaising and consulting with internal and external resources,



preparing and facilitating various individual and group programs and providing resources for youth who have developmental disabilities and/or for parents of children who have developmental disabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Formulating concrete case management and therapeutic goals and objectives and identifying appropriate internal and external resources to meet identified needs.
2. Inputting reports and statistical data into the database, providing on-going case management, crisis intervention, individual and group counselling and ensuring quality of service to clients through collaboration with all service providers.
3. Responding to requests for agency information, case consultations, community public relations, attending meetings in the community including home visits.
4. Accountable for ensuring all requests for services are processed in a caring and professional manner consistent with NCFST’s established standards, policies and procedures.
5. Providing workshops to staff on various developmental issues.
6. Facilitating support groups for parents.
7. Ability to work flexible hours, including evening work.
8. Other related duties and responsibilities as required.

Minimum Qualifications and Skills:

- A professional/ university degree in the human services field or an equivalent combination of education and Indigenous lived experience and willing to train and mentor with senior staff
- Knowledge of contemporary off reserve Indigenous realities, particularly as they relate to developmental disabilities, teen and children programming is required.




- Active participant in Indigenous ways of Knowing and Being including participation in ceremonies.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work within a team approach to service delivery.
- Ability to prioritize and organized multiple demands.
- Computer skills for data management.
- Demonstrated understanding, and commitment to, integrating the Native Child and Family Services of Toronto Mission and values in to practice, service and relationships.
- Demonstrated understanding of workplace Health and Safety practices and understanding of an employee’s responsibility under current legislation.
- Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff, to maintain effective communication and working relationships, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills, tact, sensitivity and build strong internal relationships
