Job Title: DONATION DRIVER
Location: De Mazenod Door Outreach | 440 King Street East
Employment Type: Part-Time
Schedule: Fridays, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (4 hours per week); Additional hours may be required to cover driver absences, support special events, or respond to organizational needs.
Reports To: The Donation Driver reports directly to the President & CEO and works closely with the Head Chef and in collaboration with the Donor & Volunteer Relations Manager and the Hospitality Team.
About Us De Mazenod Door Outreach is a ministry of St. Patrick’s Church dedicated to feeding people who are poor and marginalized by providing two nutritious meals a day, 365 days a year.
Our outreach kitchen is a beacon of hope in Hamilton’s inner core, providing nourishing meals, support, dignity, and a sense of belonging to those in need. We believe in the power of food to uplift, connect, and unite our community.
We are also fortunate to operate a 19-acre farm in Ancaster, where we grow fresh vegetables and produce farm-fresh eggs that help support the kitchen and its daily meal program.
Position Overview De Mazenod Door Outreach is seeking a reliable, compassionate, and service-oriented Part-Time Donation Driver to support our food donation and collection operations.
The Donation Driver plays an important role in ensuring that donated food and other essential items are safely and efficiently collected from community partners and delivered to the outreach kitchen. The successful candidate will also assist with grocery shopping, general donation pickups, and maintaining adequate food supplies for our outdoor BBQ giveaway.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working in the community, interacting with people, and contributing to a meaningful mission that supports individuals experiencing poverty and marginalization. Previous experience in food delivery, donations, driving, warehouse work, food service, or a charitable/community organization is an asset.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive the De Mazenod Door Outreach van safely and responsibly.
- Pick up donations and ensure they are transported safely to the appropriate location.
- Assist with grocery shopping and purchasing food and supplies as directed.
- Load, unload, organize, and properly store donated food and supplies.
- Bring food supplies to the outdoor BBQ, ensuring appropriate variety and quantities.
- Communicate professionally and courteously with donors, community partners, staff, and volunteers.
- Work collaboratively with the Head Chef and other members of the De Mazenod Door team to support kitchen and food-service needs.
- Follow safe food-handling, transportation, and workplace practices.
- Keep the organization’s vehicle clean, organized, and in good condition, and report any maintenance or safety concerns promptly.
- Represent De Mazenod Door Outreach positively and professionally within the community.
- Perform other related duties as required to support the organization’s mission.
Qualifications And Requirements
- Valid Ontario Class G driver’s licence.
- Clean and acceptable driver’s abstract.
- Ability to bend, lift, carry, and move boxes, food items, and supplies.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Friendly and respectful manner when interacting with donors, community partners, staff, volunteers, and guests.
- Ability to work as part of a collaborative team.
Physical Requirements This position involves regular physical activity and repetitive motions, including:
- Bending, lifting, carrying, loading, and unloading food and other donations.
- Moving boxes and supplies in and out of the vehicle.
- Standing and walking for portions of the shift.
- Working in various weather conditions when making pickups and deliveries.
