Job Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Drafting Technologist to join our innovative design team.

The Drafting

Technologist is responsible for preparing accurate and detailed technical drawings, models, and documentation to support engineering, manufacturing, and construction activities. This role includes working independently creating designs and solving complex problems and aid in leading projects from start to finish. The role may require creating Bills of Materials (BOMs) and ensuring design accuracy, communicating with project stakeholders, and supporting continuous improvement in drafting standards & practices and incorporating new technologies.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Drawings & Modeling

- Produce accurate 2D and 3D drawings using SolidWorks (or other platforms).
- Develop detailed part, assembly, and fabrication drawings.
- Update and revise drawings based on engineering changes, field feedback, or project requirements.
- Ensure drawings comply with company drafting standards, industry codes, and project specifications.
- Technical drawings and modeling (using SolidWorks AND Tekla )

Engineering Bill of Materials (EBOM) Creation & Management

- Generate and maintain comprehensive Bills of Materials for all assigned drawings and projects.
- Validate quantities, part numbers, material specifications, and revisions in the BOM.
- Coordinate with engineering, purchasing, and production teams to ensure BOM accuracy.
- Update BOMs throughout the project lifecycle and track revision history.

Documentation & Project Support

- Prepare design documentation packages for manufacturing and/or construction release.
- Assist engineers with design calculations, research, and technical problem-solving as needed.
- Maintain drawing and document control within the company’s data management system.
- Support prototype builds and production by clarifying design information and offering solutions.

Quality & Compliance





- Perform self-checks and checks on other department members in quality reviews on all drawings and BOMs.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
- Identify design inconsistencies or potential issues and escalate as required.

Communication & Collaboration

- Work closely with engineers, project managers, production teams, and external partners.
- Provide drawing clarifications and coordinate design changes.
- Participate in design meetings and project reviews.
- Support Drafting/Design department with “out of the box” solutions and innovative ideas.
- Mentor, coach and support Junior drafts people in developing their role and value within the drafting department.

Qualifications

Education

- Diploma or Degree in Drafting, CAD Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Architecture, or related field.

Experience

- 5- 6 years of drafting or design experience in [industry, e.g., manufacturing, construction, engineering].
- Experience creating Bills of Materials preferred.
- Familiarity with document control and revision tracking practices.
- Has work closely with engineers, project managers, production teams, and external partners.

Technical Skills

- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor).
- Solid understanding of technical drawing standards and GD&T; (if applicable).
- Ability to interpret engineering sketches, specifications, and construction drawings.
- Maintain workload schedule priorities in accordance with Google Sheets.
- Experience with BOM management.
