About Mission Critical EngineersMission Critical Engineers is a specialist independent Commissioning Authority for data centres and other high-availability infrastructure. We represent owners through the full commissioning lifecycle, providing rigorous technical oversight from design and construction verification through functional testing, integrated systems testing, and operational handover.

Our work addresses the complete critical infrastructure stack: electrical distribution, standby generation, UPS and battery systems, air and liquid cooling, BMS and controls, fire suppression, and life-safety systems. We are engaged where performance, redundancy, maintainability, and operational reliability must be demonstrated—not assumed.

The OpportunityMission Critical Engineers is seeking an Electrical Commissioning Associate to support commissioning delivery on complex data centre and mission-critical projects.

This is a field-based technical role involving construction verification, test execution, documentation, and coordination with project stakeholders. Working under the direction of the Lead Commissioning Project Manager, the Electrical Commissioning Associate will verify that electrical systems are installed, controlled, tested, and documented in accordance with the Owner’s Project Requirements, Basis of Design, specifications, and operating sequences.

Responsibilities

- Support electrical commissioning activities for data centres and mission-critical facilities.
- Participate in L1–L5 commissioning, including factory acceptance testing, installation verification, pre-functional testing, functional performance testing, and integrated systems testing.
- Review electrical drawings, specifications, submittals, equipment documentation, test procedures, and sequences of operation.
- Conduct site inspections and verify installation readiness for commissioning.




- Assist in testing and verification of medium- and low-voltage electrical distribution, switchgear, transformers, generators, ATS/STS, UPS systems, batteries, PDUs, grounding, EPMS, and related controls.
- Support testing of alarms, interlocks, monitoring points, control sequences, failure modes, and system response.
- Coordinate with contractors, OEM representatives, owners, and engineers during commissioning and testing activities.
- Record test results, site observations, deficiencies, corrective actions, and commissioning progress.
- Prepare meeting minutes, test reports, deficiency logs, and project status updates.
- Support test-readiness reviews, scheduling, site coordination, and test-day logistics.
- Follow MCE and project safety requirements at all times.
- Travel to client and project sites across Canada, as required.

Qualifications
- Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
- Experience in electrical construction, testing, commissioning, design, operations, or maintenance of critical facilities is preferred.
- Foundational understanding of electrical distribution systems and critical power infrastructure.
- Ability to read and interpret single-line diagrams, electrical drawings, specifications, and equipment manuals.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and technical documentation skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work safely in active construction and mission-critical environments.
- Valid driver’s licence and ability to travel 30–60% as required.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a data centre, healthcare, utility, industrial, or other mission-critical environment.
- Experience with generators, UPS systems, switchgear, protective relaying, EPMS, or power-monitoring systems.
- EIT, C.E.T., or eligibility for qualified registration.
- Familiarity with commissioning processes and L1–L5 testing.
