The Electrical Estimator will be responsible for preparing, reviewing, and managing construction cost estimates for a wide range of building and infrastructure projects throughout the planning, design, procurement, and construction phases. This project is hybrid, and we are open to candidates legally available to work across Canada - WSP has over 100 offices located across the country.

Responsibilities

Prepare detailed construction cost estimates and cost plans for electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, communications, life safety, security, controls, and specialty systems.

Develop Class D, C, B, and A estimates using conceptual information, design drawings, specifications, and quantity take-offs.

Perform measurement of electrical components in accordance with industry standards and best practices.

Analyze drawings, specifications, tender documents, and construction methodologies to identify scope, risks, opportunities, and cost drivers.

Obtain, evaluate, and validate pricing from subcontractors, suppliers, vendors, and historical cost databases.

Support budget development, feasibility studies, value engineering exercises, and design-to-budget initiatives.

Prepare cost reconciliation reports outlining estimate changes between design stages.

Participate in cost risk assessments and identify potential estimating assumptions, exclusions, contingencies, and escalation impacts.

Review contractor bids and tender submissions and provide bid analysis and recommendations.

Support change order pricing reviews, cost audits,



and commercial evaluations during construction.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams, including architects, engineers, project managers, and clients.

Prepare clear, concise, and professional cost reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.

Contribute to the continuous improvement of estimating tools, databases, benchmarking information, and estimating procedures.

Mentor junior estimators and provide technical guidance where appropriate.

Experience with CostX is an asset, but not essential.

Desired Qualifications & Experience

5 to 10 years of experience in electrical construction estimating, quantity surveying, or cost consulting.

Degree, diploma, or technical certification in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline.

Experience preparing estimates for building, institutional, commercial, healthcare, transportation, industrial, or infrastructure projects.

Strong understanding of electrical construction methods, materials, labour productivity, and market pricing.

Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office applications.

Ability to interpret design drawings, specifications, and contract documents.

Excellent analytical, communication, and client-facing skills.

Qualified designations such as PQS, CEC, MRICS, or equivalent are considered strong assets.

Experience working in a consulting, engineering, quantity surveying, or owner-side environment is preferred.
