Alberta Infrastructure is responsible for delivering about one quarter of the Alberta government’s Capital Plan, which addresses the provincial infrastructure needs of Alberta’s population that support key social programs and services and economic development.

The Ministry designs, builds, manages, and maintains government-owned and operated facilities, and collaborates with other ministries to ensure that school and hospital infrastructure meet the needs of Alberta’s population. Infrastructure also provides accommodation services and manages a large portfolio of owned and leased facilities while maintaining fiscal accountability and optimizing value for Albertans.

Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the Facilities Coordinator, the position repairs, installs, maintains and performs alterations of a variety of electrical equipment within several Correctional facilities and other facilities in the Calgary area. Performs other administrative and project planning tasks such as preparing labour and material estimates and interacting with contractors.



The position also supports the operation and maintenance of a wide variety of electrical security systems at the Calgary Correctional complex including several buildings on site and other auxiliary equipment. The incumbent works independently on a wide variety of electrical systems in conjunction with the client department.

The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that all day-to-day commercial building operations are performed in an effective and efficient manner, carefully adhering to all Alberta Infrastructure and industry accepted standards for the subject location.

The primary responsibilities for the Electrician include, but are not limited to:

- Prioritizing, scheduling, and organizing maintenance tasks for himself, in-house staff and contractors.
- Carrying out specialized procedures in the repair and reconditioning of electrical equipment
- Reading, interpreting, and performing service and maintenance of electrical components.
- Repairing or replacing faulty or non-operating components lubricate, adjust, and provide general inspection
- Providing training and direction to other Infrastructure team members/clients and users of systems, regarding safe electrical procedures and practices

Qualifications

Minimum recruitment standards outline the minimum education and experience required for appointment to a job classification.

Required:

- Journeyperson level electrician certification
- Ability to apply electrical building codes and regulations

Equivalency: Related experience or education (e.g. related diploma) may be considered as an equivalency on a one-for-one basis.

Assets:

- Coordination and planning skills involving a variety of electrical equipment of different power distribution levels in a complex facilities environment
- Detailed knowledge of the correctional environment, including sensitivity to a high level of security
- Working knowledge of operation and maintenance of building systems

Notes

This position is a Temporary, full time role with the standard weekly work hours of 40, Monday to Friday (8:15am – 4:30pm).
