Located in Toronto’s beautiful Annex neighbourhood, steps away from the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) and the University of Toronto, we are a small school by choice, allowing for close attention to each child’s academic progress and individual growth.
Position Summary
We are seeking a highly capable, reflective, and caring Elementary English Teacher to join our teaching team starting in September 2026.
The successful candidate will teach English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Social Studies, maintain high academic expectations, monitor student progress, and help students become increasingly independent and confident learners.
We are looking for an educator who believes that academic excellence and child-centred learning go hand in hand, and who can deliver intentional, well-structured lessons in a warm and supportive classroom environment.
Key Responsibilities
● Plan and deliver well-structured, academically rigorous lessons in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Social Studies.
● Develop students’ reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, writing, speaking, listening, and critical-thinking skills.
● Develop students’ mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, and conceptual understanding.
● Use explicit instruction, inquiry-based learning, and evidence-informed teaching practices to support academic growth.
● Differentiate instruction to meet students’ individual learning needs and abilities.
● Maintain high academic expectations while creating a warm, supportive, and respectful classroom.
● Assess and document student learning, provide constructive feedback, and use assessment to inform instruction.
● Foster students’ independence, organization, responsibility,
and confidence as learners.
● Support students’ social, emotional, and intellectual development.
● Collaborate with colleagues and school leadership on curriculum planning, student progress, and academic goals.
● Communicate clearly and professionally with families regarding student progress and learning needs.
● Follow school policies, health and safety guidelines, and best practices in education.
Qualifications & Experience
● Native or near-native fluency in English
● Experience teaching elementary students
● Background in Education or a related field
● Robust curriculum planning, classroom management, and assessment skills
● Strong knowledge of English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Social Studies
● Ability to uphold high academic standards while maintaining a warm, child-centred classroom
● Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills
● A genuine commitment to students’ academic growth and well-being
Preferred Assets
● Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) or equivalent
● Experience in an academically rigorous, independent, private, or enrichment-based school setting
● Experience with differentiated instruction
● Strong experience in reading comprehension, writing, critical thinking, and academic discussion
● Experience teaching Mathematics and Social Studies
● Comfort communicating with families about academic expectations and student progress

● First-year salary: $48,000–$56,000, depending on qualifications and teaching experience
