The CANDORA Society is seeking a dynamic and dedicated English Language Learning (ELL) Instructor to lead community-based English classes for adult learners. This can be either a full-time contract position (up to 37 hours/week) OR 2 part-time contract positions (15 – 19 hours/week) running until June 25, 2027, with the potential for extension. Reporting to the Family & Adult Program Manager, the ELL Instructor will play a key role in creating a welcoming and inclusive learning environment that meets the diverse needs of adult learners.

Key Responsibilities:
- Design and deliver learner-centered, inclusive lessons for adults with varying English proficiency (Beginner, Basic 1, Basic 2, Intermediate, and Employment Literacy).
- Integrate relevant themes and practical content into lessons, tailored to learners’ goals and interests.
- Provide personalized support to learners, recognizing individual progress and challenges.
- Conduct ongoing intake and orientation for new learners.
- Use evaluation tools and surveys to assess learner progress and program impact.
- Maintain accurate records for data collection and reporting purposes.
- Prepare monthly progress reports for program monitoring and improvement.
- Supervise and support ELL volunteers to enhance program delivery.
- Organize field trips and invite guest speakers to enrich learning experiences.
- Collaborate with the Adult Learning Programs team to promote program goals.
- Actively engage in community outreach and connecting activities.
- Perform other related duties as needed to support the organization.
Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies:
- Teaching certification in TESL, (A)TESOL, TEFL, or TEAL (preferred).
- Experience teaching adult English language learners, with a focus on learner-centered approaches.
- Familiarity with the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLBs) and Adult Learning Principles.
- A Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience, is considered an asset.
- Strong commitment to CANDORA Society’s mission, vision, and values.
- Knowledge of community resources to support learners.
- Excellent facilitation and participatory teaching skills.
- Ability to work effectively with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Sensitivity to the challenges faced by immigrants and newcomers to Canada.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital tools for lesson planning and reporting.
- Flexibility and adaptability to respond to changing needs and priorities.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Collaborative and relationship-building abilities to foster a supportive learning environment.
Working Conditions
- This position can be either a full-time contract, in office position (up to 37 hours per week) OR 2 part-time contract, on-site position (15 – 19 hours per week).
- Working hours typically fall within standard business hours from 8:30AM to 4:30PM with occasional work during evenings and weekends.
