Beamish Construction Inc. is looking for a hard-working, self-motivated Equipment & Fleet Manager to join our team in Elliot Lake, Ontario. This is a full-time, permanent position offering competitive wages, a full benefits package, and ongoing learning and development. This role owns the day-to-day running of our shop and equipment fleet serving the Algoma Region and working closely with the Equipment & Fleet Managers across the Ethier-Beamish Group of Companies to align maintenance standards and share resources group-wide.
Travel within the Algoma Region, and occasionally to other group locations, may be required.
Your Day-to-Day
- Coach, mentor, schedule, and manage attendance and performance for a team of shop and field employees, including conflict resolution and learning and development
- Oversee the day-to-day running of the shop, keeping workflow constant and efficient
- Ensure oversight of time and equipment/job costing
- Support mechanics with troubleshooting and technical questions
- Organize and schedule labour in the workshop and field
- Verify the level of quality on completed repairs and projects
- Prepare quotes for required repairs
- Research warranty coverage to determine whether the manufacturer retains responsibility
- Foster a workplace culture of safety, with visible and consistent leadership
- Continually promote health and safety awareness through instruction, information, training, and supervision
- Manage monthly shop and equipment budgets
- Work within our current Equipment, Fleet, and Maintenance programs for parts, inventory, and preventive maintenance (PM) scheduling
- Work with the Health & Safety Manager and other members of the Health & Safety team to ensure compliance and coordinate equipment inspections
- Collaborate regularly with Equipment & Fleet Managers across the Ethier-Beamish Group of Companies to align standards, share best practices, and coordinate equipment and resources group-wide
- Travel within the Algoma Region, and occasionally to other group locations as required
- Work in accordance with all internal, client and regulated health and safety policies, procedures and/or regulations, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Perform other related duties as assigned
You Are a Good Fit If You Have
Required:
- Valid Trade Certification in either 421A Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician or 310T Truck and Coach Technician or equivalent experience
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience working as a 421A or 310T Mechanic
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a supervisory, management, or leadership role
Considered an Asset:
- Valid DZ or AZ Driver’s license
- Prior experience in the construction or aggregate industries
Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to monitor and review equipment repairs
- Ability to understand, identify and apply provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations
- Leadership skills including understanding delegation, conflict resolution, and motivating the team and building positive relationships with staff
- Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook) including experience with commercial fleet tracking, Big Roads and Fleet Complete software
- Ability to work both day and afternoon shifts on a rotating basis.
- Ability to adapt to last-minute changes as dictated by the needs of our customers
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
- Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within the parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
