Job Overview
Rockport Commercial Inc. is seeking a hardworking and reliable Excavation Labourer to join our in-house excavation crew in Winnipeg. In this role, you will work strictly on internal residential and commercial developments (such as townhouses, apartment complexes, and commercial spaces) owned directly by the Rockport Investment Group. We run a tight-knit, versatile crew.
You will work hand-in-hand with our heavy equipment operators and site supervisors to safely execute grading, trenching, and site preparation.
Why Join Rockport?
- We Are Our Own Client: As a vertically integrated company, we build entirely for our own portfolio. You won't have to deal with demanding external clients or unstable contract pipelines.
- All-In-House Team: Most of our trades are entirely in-house, fostering a highly cooperative and collaborative culture.
- Unbeatable Culture: We work hard but value our crew's morale. Enjoy regular company parties and team-building events.
Key Responsibilities
- Excavation & Shovelling: Perform manual excavation, trench digging, and fine grading alongside heavy machinery.
- Spotting & Safety: Act as a spotter for excavators, loaders,
and skid steers to ensure protected operation around underground utilities and ground crews.
- Grade Checking: Assist operators by measuring and checking trench depths and grade levels using laser levels and grade rods.
- Site Preparation & Maintenance: Set up safety barricades, clear debris, and maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free job site.
- Material Management: Guide deliveries and stage materials exactly where the crew needs them.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: Previous experience in civil construction or heavy excavation environments is preferred.
- Physical Fitness: Capability to handle heavy lifting, repetitive tasks, and working outdoors in all Winnipeg weather conditions.
- Team Player: A positive attitude with a willingness to jump in and assist with other labour tasks on site as needed.
- Safety Mindset: Robust knowledge of ground-disturbance safety, utility markings, and PPE requirements.
- Transportation: Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to access various job sites across Winnipeg. [1, 2, 3]
