Position Details

Athletics & Recreation Services (ARS) at the University of Lethbridge is seeking applications for a qualified Facility Operator – Athletics & Recreation. This is a full-time, continuing AUPE position, working 7.5 hours per day on a modified work week. The position will primarily work weekdays; however, shifts may include evenings and weekends based on operational and event requirements.

Reporting to the Manager, Athletic & Recreation Facilities, the Athletics & Recreation Facility Operator plays a key role in the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the University’s athletic and recreation facilities, including the Community Sports Stadium, Centre for Sport and Wellness, Max Bell Regional Aquatic Centre, gymnasiums, Fitness Centre, Ascent Climbing Centre, and associated spaces.

This position is well suited to an individual who is mechanically inclined, hands-on, and comfortable troubleshooting equipment and facility issues. The successful candidate will work both independently and collaboratively with ARS staff, University Facilities, trades, contractors, suppliers, and facility users.

Key Responsibilities:

- Perform preventative and on-demand facility maintenance,



including troubleshooting, minor repairs, equipment servicing, parts replacement, and general facility upkeep.
- Conduct regular inspections of facility systems and equipment, including pool systems, fitness and gymnasium equipment, artificial turf, bleachers, scoreboards, sport equipment, and other operational assets.
- Safely operate and maintain facility equipment, utility vehicles, Gators/UTVs, hand and power tools, turf maintenance equipment, pressure washers, snow removal equipment, and other operational equipment.
- Complete and manage maintenance work orders through the WebTMA work order system, including documenting completed work, identifying required parts, and coordinating follow-up work.
- Support the safe operation of aquatic facility systems, including pool chemistry testing, chemical handling and changeouts, equipment inspections, and preventative maintenance.
- Act as a Lead Operator for facility bookings, athletic competitions, tournaments, and special events, coordinating facility set-ups and take-downs, responding to operational issues, and supporting staff and user groups.
- Provide technical and operational support during events, including troubleshooting facility equipment, scoreboards, sport equipment, and other event infrastructure.
- Assist with facility maintenance projects, equipment installations and replacements, seasonal maintenance, and ongoing facility improvements.
- Coordinate with University Facilities, trades, contractors, suppliers, and service technicians to support repairs and maintenance activities.
- Research, source, and procure replacement parts, equipment, and operational supplies as required.
- Complete facility opening and closing procedures, inspections, walkthroughs, and other operational documentation.
- Perform general facility maintenance and upkeep, including artificial turf maintenance, snow removal,



exterior maintenance, equipment cleaning, and other duties required to maintain safe and presentable facilities.
- Provide Intermediate First Aid Response when required.

Position Qualifications Qualifications & Requirements:

- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in facility operations, maintenance, recreation, athletics, events, trades, or a related environment.
- High school diploma; post-secondary education, apprenticeship, technical training, or related certification is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and experience using common hand and power tools.
- Ability to troubleshoot basic mechanical, equipment, and facility-related issues and determine appropriate next steps.
- Ability to perform physical work and work in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments and weather conditions.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Microsoft Teams.
- Intermediate First Aid (formerly Standard First Aid) with CPR/AED certification, or ability to obtain certification within the first six months of employment.
- Swimming Pool Operator Level I and Level II certification, or ability to complete both within the first year of employment.
- Valid unrestricted Class 5 Driver’s License with no more than six demerits. Submission of a motor vehicle record (driver abstract) dated within three months of the posting close is required.

Starting Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE) $5,000.00 - $5,589.00 monthly

Full Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE)

$5,000.00 - $6,177.00 monthly (AUPE - Grade 9)
