Tallow & Fries, Inc., based in the Greater Toronto Area, Canada, is a food manufacturer that specializes in creating natural frozen foods that are minimally processed and free from seed oils and food additives.

Job Overview

We are seeking dedicated and experienced results-driven Shift Supervisor to lead and oversee all operations on our automated frozen french fries production line during an assigned shift in a HACCP/SQF work environment. Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, the Shift Supervisor is accountable for the entire shift’s performance on the production line, including safety, food quality, output targets, team leadership, and compliance. This hands-on role manages a team of Food Production staff, ensures seamless execution of production plans, resolves operational issues in real-time, and drives continuous improvement while maintaining the highest standards of food safety and product integrity in a fast-paced, refrigerated manufacturing workplace.

Responsibilities

- Take full ownership of the assigned shift’s production performance on the frozen fries’ line, ensuring achievement of daily/weekly targets for volume, yield, quality, efficiency, and cost control.
- Directly supervise and support Food Production Leads and Associates; provide direction, coaching, performance feedback, disciplinary action when necessary, and foster a high-performance, safety-focused team culture; working in line with the team as required.
- Monitor and control all line operations from raw potato receiving through peeling, cutting, blanching, frying, IQF freezing, sorting, seasoning, packaging, and palletizing; ensure smooth flow and minimal downtime.
- Enforce strict adherence to HACCP, SQF, GMPs, SSOPs, allergen programs, and all regulatory/food safety policies and requirements; lead investigations of deviations, implement corrective/preventative actions, and prepare documentation for audits and inspections.
- Conduct shift handovers,



review production schedules and priorities with the incoming supervisor, and communicate key issues, achievements, and action items to the Plan Manager and other departments.
- Oversee equipment performance and line efficiency; coordinate with maintenance for repairs, preventative maintenance, and breakdowns; approve and prioritize work orders to minimize impact on output.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) including throughput, waste, downtime, rework, yield, and labour utilization; analyze trends, report daily shift results, and collaborate with the Plant Manager on improvement plans.
- Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives, root cause analysis, and implementation of HACCP validation and verification protocols as directed by the Plant Manager.
- Ensure a safe, clean, and organized work environment; enforce health & safety policies, conduct safety observations, lead incident investigations, and promote proactive hazard identification.
- Manage shift staffing needs, approve time-off requests, schedule breaks, and address absenteeism or performance concerns in alignment with company policies.
- Support training and development of team members, including onboarding new hires, cross-training, and certification in food safety and equipment operation.
- Liaise with other departments to resolve cross-functional issues and support overall plant goals.
- Perform other responsibilities and duties as assigned from time to time by management.

Requirements

- Commitment to food safety and quality.
- Reliable, punctual, and responsible.
- Strong communication and leadership skills; able to coach, motivate,



and work collaboratively within a team.
- Excellent ability to problem solve and work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- In-depth knowledge of HACCP, SQF, GMPs, food safety regulations, and quality systems; SQF Practitioner or equivalent certification is highly desirable (company supports ongoing certification).
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings and weekends as required.
- Ability to work in a refrigerated/frozen environment and stand/walk for extended periods
- Practical mechanical aptitude for operating and adjusting automated production equipment, experience troubleshooting equipment and coordinating maintenance activities.
- Basic math skills for measurement, weights, and data recording.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and production/ERP systems for reporting and data analysis.
- A valid food handler certification is an asset.
- HACCP I and/or HACCP II training.
- Capable of lifting up to 40-50lbs.
- Must pass a pre-employment background check.

Education:

- Post-Secondary Education in food science, operations management, engineering, or related field is preferred; or equivalent food manufacturing experience and education.

Experience:

- Food Manufacturing at least 5 year+, including team supervisory experience in a high-speed automated food production environment

Language:

- English (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

- Food Handler Certification
- HACCP/SQF training

Reports to: · Plant Manager

· Food Production Leads, Food Production Associates

Work Location: In person at 2396 Stanfield Road, Mississauga, Ontario, L4Y 1S1

Pay: $22.00-$25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 32.0 – 44.0 per week
