About the Operation
JR Wismer Farms is a 117-acre vineyard operation across seven blocks (Wingfield, Fox, Glen Elgin, Parke, Cuesta, Lakeview, and Armbrust) in the Niagara Peninsula, growing 13 grape varieties including Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Riesling, Pinot Noir, Gamay Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, and others. We are seeking reliable, hardworking farm workers to support vineyard, orchard, and general farm operations throughout the growing season.
Duties
- Perform vineyard tasks including pruning, tying, shoot thinning, leaf pulling, canopy management, and hand/machine harvesting
- Perform fruit tree/orchard tasks including pruning, thinning,
spraying support, and harvesting as required
- Operate and assist with vineyard equipment (tractors, sprayers, mowers) under supervision
- Install and maintain trellising, irrigation lines, and bird netting
- Apply crop protection products and fertilizers under supervision, following all safety protocols
- Perform general farm labour as assigned
- Load, unload, and transport harvested product
- Maintain a clean and protected work environment; follow all Occupational Health and Safety Act requirements
- Other general farm duties as assigned
Requirements
- Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in all weather conditions
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to stand, bend, lift (up to 25 kg), and work at heights (ladders) as needed
- Reliability and punctuality
- Willingness to work extended hours during peak harvest periods
Compensation & Benefits
- Wage: $17.95/hour (or current applicable Ontario agricultural prevailing wage — see note above)
- Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) coverage
- Overtime pay in accordance with Ontario employment standards for agricultural workers
