Grade 6 In-Home Tutor – Math & Academic Support – Riverside South

Location: Ottawa South — Barrhaven / Riverside South / Manotick area

Job type: Part-time, approximately 2-3 sessions per week

Pay: $20–$30, depending on qualifications and experience

Schedule: Approximately 2–3 sessions per week, or as needed. We are adaptable and willing to find a suitable arrangement based on the student's needs and availability.

About the position

We are looking for a reliable, patient and engaging in-home tutor to provide ongoing academic support to a Grade 6 female student.

The primary focus will be Math, along with homework support, study skills and preparation for tests and assignments. The tutor should also be comfortable supporting English/writing, Social Studies and other Grade 6 subjects as needed.

We are looking for someone who can help the student not only complete homework, but also develop stronger study habits, organization, confidence and independent learning skills.

Responsibilities

- Provide one-on-one, in-home tutoring approximately 2–3 sessions per week, or as needed. We are flexible and willing to find a suitable arrangement based on the student's needs and availability.
- Provide support with Grade 6 Math, including homework and preparation for tests and assessments
- Help strengthen English skills, particularly writing, grammar, organization and clarity of expression
- Provide homework support across subjects, including Social Studies and other areas as needed
- Help the student prepare for tests, quizzes and assignments
- Reinforce good study habits, time management and organization
- Explain concepts clearly and adapt teaching approaches to the student's learning style
- Encourage confidence, independence and a positive attitude toward learning




- Communicate with the parent regarding areas of focus and progress

Qualifications and experience

- Strong academic background, particularly in Math
- Excellent English communication and writing skills
- Experience tutoring or teaching elementary/middle-school students
- Patient, encouraging and able to build a positive relationship with a student
- Reliable and punctual
- Able to work independently and adapt teaching approaches to the student's needs
- Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation, as tutoring will take place in the student's home
- Located in or reasonably close to Barrhaven, Riverside South, Manotick or surrounding areas, or willing to travel to the area
- References are an asset

French — an asset French-language tutoring experience and strong French proficiency would be an asset.

Schedule and lesson duration

- Approximately 2-3 sessions per week or as needed, with flexibility around days and times. We’re willing to find a suitable arrangement based on the student's needs and availability.

Lesson duration is flexible and open to discussion — generally 1–2 hours per session, or as needed, depending on the student's needs, workload and upcoming assessments. Screening The successful candidate will be required to provide a Vulnerable Sector Check and professional/personal references before beginning the position.
