Hair Salon Consultant / Growth & Operations Manager — Part-Time, 3-Month Contract

About Us

Herbishh Salon is a newly rebranded full-service hair salon located in Unionville, Markham, backed by Herbishh — an established haircare brand with international distribution across North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. We recently acquired an established 12-station salon (formerly R&K; Salon) with a loyal Chinese-Canadian clientele and are entering a new chapter under new ownership.

We're looking for an experienced part time Salon Consultant / Growth & Operations Manager who can do two things well: strengthen our day-to-day operations AND actively grow our customer base through smart local marketing during a critical 3-month launch period.

The Opportunity

This is a 3-month part-time contract with a dual mandate:

- Half the role — set up systems, train our team, and improve operations
- Half the role — plan and execute a customer acquisition strategy that measurably grows our foot traffic and appointment bookings

You'll work alongside our current salon manager and stylists, with direct access to the ownership team and a real budget for marketing execution.

Start date: Immediately

Location: On-site at 4361 Highway 7 East, Unit 3, Markham (Unionville)

Schedule: 3 days per week on-site (18 hours), including Saturdays + up to 4 hours/week offline for planning and reporting (~20-22 hrs/week total)

Compensation: $3500-$4,000 /month base + performance bonus tied to new customer growth (details below)

Marketing budget: $2,000-$3,000/month you'll help deploy (Google Ads, flyers, local partnerships, elevator ads, WeChat/Xiaohongshu campaigns)

Contract length: 3 months, with option to extend based on measurable results

Language Requirement — MANDATORY

Our entire stylist team and majority of our clientele are Chinese-speaking. Fluent Mandarin (Simplified Chinese) or Cantonese is required in addition to conversational English.

What You'll Do

Growth & Customer Acquisition (50% of your time)





- Local advertising execution — plan and place flyers in nearby condos, plazas, community centres, and coffee shops in Unionville, Markham, and surrounding neighbourhoods
- Elevator ads / building screens — identify and negotiate placement in high-traffic residential and office buildings in Markham
- Google Ads campaigns — set up, monitor, and optimize local search + display ads targeting "hair salon Markham," "染发 万锦," etc.
- Xiaohongshu (小红书) marketing — plan and coordinate influencer collaborations, before/after posts, promotional content targeting the Chinese-Canadian community
- WeChat marketing — build customer communication channels, group promotions, referral programs
- Google Business Profile optimization — photos, posts, replies to reviews (both English and Chinese)
- Local partnerships — build relationships with nearby wedding vendors, real estate agents, corporate offices, gyms, and yoga studios for cross-referrals
- Loyalty & referral programs — design and launch a system to reward repeat customers and word-of-mouth referrals
- Grand-opening / rebrand launch event — plan and coordinate a promotional event to introduce Herbishh Salon to the community
- Weekly growth reporting — track new customer count, booking sources, campaign ROI, and adjust strategy weekly

Operations & Team Development (50% of your time)

- Design and document salon SOPs (opening/closing, cash handling, appointment booking, complaint handling)
- Support and mentor our current salon manager
- Train stylists on service consistency, upselling, and client consultation
- Set up service pricing structure and menu
- Establish quality control standards for cuts, colour, and treatments
- Optimize Clover POS setup, employee tracking, and commission calculation
- Establish performance metrics and monthly review process




- Prepare final handover documentation and 12-month roadmap

Success Metrics (How We'll Measure You) You'll be evaluated on concrete, measurable outcomes during the 3-month contract:

Growth targets

- +30% increase in new customers (customers who have never visited before) by end of Month 3
- +20% increase in overall weekly appointment bookings by end of Month 3
- Minimum 15 new 5-star Google reviews during the contract period
- Minimum 500 new social media / WeChat followers across platforms
- Positive ROI on all paid ad spend — must justify marketing budget usage

Operations targets:
- All SOPs documented and staff trained by end of Month 2
- Manager fully independent on all POS reporting and daily ops by end of Month 3

Performance Bonus: In addition to the monthly base pay, you're eligible for a $1,000 bonus per month if you exceed the new-customer growth target.

What You Bring

Required:

- 5+ years managing or consulting for a busy hair salon (preferably 8+ stations)
- Fluent Mandarin or Cantonese + working English — non-negotiable
- Proven local marketing experience — you've actually run flyer campaigns, Google Ads, or Xiaohongshu/WeChat campaigns for a salon or similar local business
- Deep knowledge of Ontario salon regulations, WSIB, and licensing
- Strong grasp of pricing structures, commission models, and salon financials
- Comfortable with Clover POS, Google Business Profile, Meta Ads Manager, and social media

Highly Preferred:

- Prior experience in a Chinese-Canadian salon in the GTA
- Familiarity with the Markham / Richmond Hill salon market
- Existing network of Xiaohongshu / WeChat influencers or local marketing contacts
- Experience running successful grand-opening or rebrand campaigns
- Experience with premium colour lines (Goldwell, Wella, Kevin Murphy, etc.)

Nice to Have:

- Personal network of skilled stylists (for future recruitment)
- Hairdressing certification (not required, but a plus)
- Prior experience with salon acquisitions or turnarounds

Pay: $3,500.00-$4,000.00 per month
