Role and responsibilities:
- Supervise and manage health and safety operations at assigned shop/plant location and various construction sites within assigned geographical area.
- Provide updates to the relevant leadership team (field/plant) on health and safety issues and inspections/audits
- Conduct regular visits to the field/plant and carry out inspections/audits.
- Organize and support completion of inspections, hazard assessments, toolbox talks, pre shift inspections and preventative maintenance logs.
- Collaborate with the operations teams to determine corrective actions for identified hazards.
- Ensure completion of annual Health and Safety Improvement Plan (HSIP)
- Ensure all requirements are met for COR certification
- Assist in reporting and investigation process for all incidents, accidents and near misses to determine corrective actions.
- Manage Incident claims and Early and Secure Return to Work Programs
- Ensure incident data is up to date
- Ensure all internal and external reporting requirements are met.
- Participate in maintaining and updating the company Health & Safety management program.
- Organize, track, and facilitate required safety training for workers.
- Conduct safety orientations for new hires and annual refreshers
- Ensure employee training is up to date and training and skills matrix is maintained.
- Update, track and monitor company performance of H&S; incident statistics and KPIs, identify trends and provide recommendations to operations.
- Notify all relevant parties of H&S; incidents, updates, and investigation or inspection results.
- Manage, post & distribute minutes for monthly JHSC and regular safety meetings.
- Participate in the development of safe work practices.
- Complete pre qualification documents for Sales/Project Management Teams.
- Conduct shop tours and audit H&S; performance of assigned facilities on a monthly basis.
- Provide ongoing support to the AGF Rebar H&S; Team and others users with training, troubleshooting and implementation of Sitedocs H&S; Software.
- Participate in H&S; and Field Operations meetings and complete action items as assigned.
- Support H&S; Team where needed.
- All other duties as assigned by manager/supervisor.
What we are looking for:
- Bachelor's degree in health and safety or a related field may be preferred
- 3-5 years of H&S; experience in the construction/manufacturing environment.
- National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) preferred.
- Experience completing required reporting for WCB, OHS,
and other governing agencies in the area Health & Safety
- Ability to understand and adhere to Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) articles in areas of Health & Safety, union communications, grievance/discipline processes (Preferred).
- Understanding of current Occupational Health and Safety Legislation and Regulations
- Proactive & dynamic attitude focused on delivering results
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
