Donald’s Fine Foods is a family-owned business that has operated for over 30 years. We are a specialty meat manufacturer spanning six plants in British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan serving both domestic and international markets.

Role Purpose The Hog Receiver is responsible for the safe, humane, and efficient receiving of live hogs into the processing facility. The role ensures livestock are properly unloaded, identified, counted, sorted, and moved to designated holding areas in accordance with company procedures, animal welfare standards, biosecurity requirements, food safety programs, and applicable legislation.

The Hog Receiver plays an key role in maintaining the smooth flow of livestock into the plant while ensuring the health and welfare of animals, the safety of employees, and the integrity of receiving and traceability records.

Key Accountabilities

- Safely and humanely receive, unload, and move live hogs within the receiving and holding areas.
- Maintain compliance with company animal welfare standards and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Accurately verify livestock shipments, counts, identification, and required receiving documentation.
- Monitor livestock for signs of injury, illness, distress, abnormal behaviour, or mortality and promptly report concerns.
- Maintain appropriate livestock flow, pen conditions, and access to water in accordance with established procedures.
- Follow all plant biosecurity, food safety, sanitation, and hygiene requirements.
- Operate livestock-handling equipment safely and in accordance with training and established procedures.




- Maintain clean, safe, and organized livestock receiving and holding areas.
- Immediately communicate receiving, animal welfare, safety, equipment, or operational concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
- Contribute to a safe, efficient, and respectful workplace.

Experience

Required:

- Previous experience working with livestock, agriculture, farming, barns, animal handling, or a related environment is considered an asset.
- Experience working in a physically demanding environment.
- Experience following established procedures and safety requirements.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment.

Preferred:

- Previous experience in a meat-processing facility or livestock receiving environment.
- Experience working with hogs or other livestock.
- Experience with livestock transportation, unloading, sorting, or handling.
- Previous animal welfare or livestock-handling training.
- Experience operating livestock-handling equipment.

Education and Certification

- Completion of company-required animal welfare, food safety, biosecurity, and health and safety training.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Formal training in livestock handling, animal welfare, agriculture, or a related field.
- Valid equipment certifications where applicable.

Pay: From $21.02 per hour Expected hours: 35.0 – 40.0 per week
