We are seeking an experienced Interim Tax Manager to join an Investment Funds Tax team. This is a hands-on role focused primarily on Canadian investment funds, with opportunities for exposure to offshore alternative funds.
Location: Toronto, Canada (hybrid - up to 3 days, on-site)Duration: Approximately 3 months, with a strong possibility of extension
What you will work on
- Oversee mock and year-end tax distribution review processes for investment funds.
- Work closely with fund administrators, external tax advisors, auditors, and internal business partners.
- Review and file T3 tax returns and related tax forms.
- Review HST returns, PFIC factors, and other investment fund tax matters.
- Support tax compliance for mutual funds, pooled funds, segregated funds, ETFs, limited partnerships, and mutual fund corporations.
- Act as a key contact for foreign tax agents and support tax compliance in foreign jurisdictions.
- Review corporate actions and provide guidance on appropriate tax treatment.
- Support tax audits, notices of assessment, and inquiries from tax authorities.
- Review tax-related disclosures in prospectuses, offering documents, and other legal documents.
- Respond to tax inquiries from internal stakeholders and maintain strong relationships with business and tax teams.
- Maintain tax policies, procedures, controls, and audit trails.
- Monitor tax legislative changes and communicate relevant updates to stakeholders.
- Support vendor management, including engagement letters, fee approvals, and performance.
- Ensure accuracy, attention to detail, and timely completion of tax compliance deadlines.
What you will bring
- University degree in Accounting, Taxation, Finance,
or a related discipline.
- 3–5 years of investment funds tax experience with a major accounting firm, asset manager, or fund administrator.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian investment fund taxation, including mutual fund trusts, corporations, partnerships, regulated investment entities, securities, and derivatives.
- Experience handling tax audits and resolving tax issues with minimal supervision.
- Robust technical research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and relationship-building skills.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to meet tight compliance deadlines.
- Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative and improve tax processes and procedures.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and MS Office; experience with tax databases and applications is an asset.
- CICA In-Depth Tax Courses I & II or equivalent tax education is an asset.
