The Opportunity

McElhanney is seeking an Intermediate Engineer / Technologist, Bridges and Culverts to join our growing Bridge Group in Calgary. This is an opportunity for an experienced professional to support the assessment, design, rehabilitation and construction of bridge and culvert infrastructure across Alberta. The role will involve a practical mix of technical design, field work, construction support, and project coordination, with opportunities to take on increasing responsibility as part of our growing practice.

Based in Calgary, you will work with bridge, structural, transportation, hydrotechnical and construction professionals across Alberta and British Columbia. Our work includes standard highway and municipal bridges, bridge-sized and standard culverts, bridge rehabilitations, condition assessments, inspections, replacements and construction engineering services. Projects range from focused assignments for municipalities, the provincial and federal governments including private developers.

What You’ll Do

- Lead and contribute to the inspection, assessment, analysis, design and rehabilitation of standard bridges, bridge-sized culverts and related transportation structures.
- Coordinate with transportation, hydrotechnical, geotechnical, environmental, survey and construction teams to develop practical, constructible solutions.
- Apply Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors, municipal, and other applicable bridge and culvert standards.




- Prepare and review technical deliverables including design calculations, drawings, specifications, contract documents, and cost estimates.
- Support project delivery through stakeholder coordination, construction services, contract administration, and field reviews.
- Support proposal preparation, client relationships and business development, particularly for municipal, provincial and federal bridge and culvert programs.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technologists and share knowledge on how to things better.

What You’ll Bring

- Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering and/or Structural Engineering from an accredited post-secondary institution.
- 6 to 12 years of relevant experience in bridge, culvert or transportation-structure engineering.
- Registered or eligible for registration as a PEng. with APEGA, or as C.E.T. with ASET.
- Working knowledge of CAN/CSA S6 and experience applying bridge design standards on highway, municipal, and transportation infrastructure projects.
- Experience with the inspection, assessment, design, rehabilitation or construction of standard bridges and culverts.
- Familiarity with Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors standards; experience with City of Calgary projects and bridge hydrotechnical analysis is considered an asset.

- Strong communication, project coordination, and relationship-building skills, with a collaborative and entrepreneurial approach to project delivery.

What Can We Offer You? The salary range for this position is $90,000 - $130,000 per annum.

The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
