The Chance

McElhanney has an exciting opportunity for an Intermediate Construction Inspector, Construction Technologist, or Engineer to join our team in Calgary, AB. In this role, you will play a key part in the delivery of construction inspection services on a variety of municipal and/or transportation infrastructure projects throughout Alberta. Working closely with project managers, clients, contractors, and field staff, you will help ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications and contract requirements.

This role is ideal for a motivated and experienced construction professional who enjoys working in a variety of environments, collaborating with project teams, and taking on increasing responsibility. The successful candidate will be based in Calgary and must be willing to travel to project sites throughout the region. Travel may include local assignments, day trips, and, if interested, extended out-of-town projects requiring several weeks in office at a time.

As part of our construction management team, you will contribute to the successful delivery of transportation and municipal infrastructure projects while supporting the development and mentorship of junior inspection staff.

What You’ll Do

- Provide on-site construction inspection to monitor the quality and progress of work being performed.
- Complete daily inspection reports and maintain accurate project records.
- Interpret and apply project specifications, standards, drawings, and contract requirements during construction activities.
- Understand site hazards and ensure secure work procedures are followed at all times.
- Identify inspection issues, deficiencies, or concerns and communicate them effectively to project managers, clients, and contractors.
- Track quantities, maintain bid item records, and assist with progress payment documentation.
- Monitor construction progress and provide regular updates to project teams.
- Identify field and design issues, facilitate corrective measures, and support constructability reviews.
- Liaise professionally with contractors, clients,



utility companies, and other stakeholders during construction operations.
- Support materials testing, quality assurance activities, and field measurements as required.
- Assist with survey verification and survey quality assurance activities where applicable.
- Train, mentor, and provide day-to-day guidance to junior inspection staff.
- Understand, commit to, and fulfill responsibilities under the McElhanney Quality Management System, ISO 9001, and all client quality, safety, and environmental management systems.

What You’ll Bring

- 6+ years of construction inspection experience on municipal, transportation, or other civil infrastructure projects.
- Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Engineering Technology, a degree in Civil Engineering, or an equivalent compository of experience suitable for the role.
- Eligible for or currently holding a professional designation such as C.E.T., A.Sc.T., P.Tech., E.I.T., or P.Eng. in Alberta is considered an asset.
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, contract documents, and construction practices.
- Ability to identify construction deficiencies, recommend corrective actions, and communicate findings effectively.
- Survey experience and survey quality assurance experience are considered strong assets.
- Materials testing experience is considered an asset.
- Experience leading, mentoring, or overseeing junior staff in a field environment is an asset.
- Ability to work extended hours during peak construction season when required.
- Willingness and flexibility to travel for project assignments, including local travel, day trips, and if interested, extended stays at remote project sites for periods of several weeks.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license and a clean driving record.

What Can We Offer You? The salary range for this position is $73,000 - $109,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
