Kitchen Cook Trainee – Sheng Jian Bao (Pan-Fried Buns)
Yang’s Dumpling is a busy Shanghai-style restaurant in Richmond, BC. We are looking for a reliable and motivated team member to join our kitchen and learn how to prepare and cook our signature Sheng Jian Bao (Shanghai pan-fried buns).
No previous Sheng Jian Bao experience is required. Paid training will be provided.
Position Details
- Full-time, permanent position
- Starting at $19/hour + shared tips
- Approximately 30–40 hours per week
- Wage increases may be available as skills, speed, consistency, and responsibilities grow
- Day, evening, weekend, and shift work
- On-site position in Richmond, BC
Main Responsibilities
- Learn the full preparation and cooking process for Sheng Jian Bao
- Prepare ingredients and fillings according to recipes and restaurant standards
- Learn dough handling, portioning, shaping, filling, and pan-frying techniques
- Follow standardized recipes, portion sizes, cooking times, and kitchen procedures
- Maintain consistent product quality, appearance, and food safety standards
- Keep the workstation, equipment, and kitchen area clean and organized
- Assist with food preparation and other kitchen duties when needed
- Work efficiently during busy lunch, dinner, and weekend service periods
What We Are Looking For
- Reliable, punctual, and responsible
- Willing to learn and accept training
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced kitchen environment
- Able to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive food-preparation tasks
- Able to follow instructions and standardized procedures
- Available to work weekends and scheduled shifts
- Valuable time management and organizational skills
- Cooperative and able to work well as part of a team
- Interested in stable, long-term employment
Previous restaurant, kitchen, bakery, food-production, or other hands-on work experience is an asset, but not required.
Language
Basic English communication is required. Chinese or Mandarin is not required.
