Universal Fire Sprinkler Inc. is seeking a skilled and reliable Kitchen Hood Suppression Technician to join our dedicated team serving the Ottawa region.In this role, you will lead the installation, inspection, testing, and maintenance of commercial kitchen fire suppression systems (pre-engineered wet chemical systems) in restaurants, hotels, and institutional facilities.

Key Responsibilities

- Inspect & Test: Perform routine semi-annual maintenance and functional testing on commercial kitchen hood suppression systems in compliance with NFPA 96, NFPA 17A, and local Ontario Fire Codes.
- Install & Upgrade: Install, pipe, and commission new pre-engineered kitchen fire suppression systems (e.g., Ansul, Range Guard, Pyro-Chem).
- Diagnose & Repair: Troubleshoot mechanical faults, replace fusible links, actuators, nozzles, and chemical cylinders as needed.
- Documentation: Complete clear, accurate digital inspection reports and deficiency lists for clients and insurance compliance.
- Customer Service: Act as a professional face of Universal Fire Sprinkler Inc., educating restaurant staff on proper system operation and emergency procedures.
- On-Call Rotation:



Participate in a scheduled emergency on-call rotation to address urgent system recharges or faults.

Qualifications & Skills

- Experience: Minimum 2 to 3 years of hands-on experience servicing pre-engineered kitchen fire suppression systems is strictly required.
- Vehicle & Licensing: Must possess a valid Ontario G Driver’s License and a reliable personal vehicle to travel to various job sites across Ottawa.
- Certifications: Manufacturer training/certification (Ansul, Range Guard, Kidde, etc.) is highly preferred. CFAA certification or portable fire extinguisher technician certification is a major asset.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of NFPA standards, Ontario Building Code, and Ontario Fire Code.
- Physical Fitness: Ability to climb ladders, work in tight spaces around commercial kitchen hoods, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written English communication skills for client-facing interactions and reports.
