As part of our continued expansion into the skilled trades sector, we are preparing to launch a TSSA-approved Gas Technician 3 & 2 Program designed to provide students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to pursue careers in Ontario's gas and heating industry.

We are seeking an experienced Gas Technician and educator to join our team as the Lead Instructor – Gas Technician 3 & 2 Program.

This is a newly created position established to support the development, implementation, and ongoing delivery of the College's Gas Technician training programs within our growing Skilled Trades Training Division.

The successful candidate will play a key role in the planning, development, implementation, and delivery of the Gas Technician 3 & 2 Program while ensuring compliance with applicable Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) requirements in Ontario.

Position Overview The Lead Instructor will work with the College's academic leadership team to develop and deliver the Gas Technician 3 & 2 Program in alignment with TSSA requirements and industry standards.

The role includes curriculum and assessment development, guidance on training lab setup and equipment, and delivery of classroom, laboratory, and practical instruction. The Lead Instructor will also support ongoing program quality, compliance, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum Development & Academic Leadership

- Review and develop the Gas Technician 3 & 2 curriculum in accordance with CSA training materials, TSSA requirements, and industry standards.
- Develop and update lesson plans, examinations, and practical activities based on required CSA course content.
- Develop clear assessment rubrics, lab practical assessments, and competency evaluation criteria for theoretical and hands-on training.
- Ensure instructional materials and assessments accurately reflect required learning outcomes, practical skills, and industry competencies.
- Review and update course materials as codes, regulations, CSA materials, and industry practices change.
- Work closely with the College's academic leadership team to maintain program quality and regulatory compliance.

Training Facility Planning & Development





- Provide technical guidance regarding the design, layout, and functionality of the Gas Technician training shop.
- Recommend equipment, tools, appliances, training systems, and instructional resources required for practical training.
- Assist in planning laboratory workstations that simulate real-world gas service, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting environments.
- Work with the College’s approved vendors and contractors to support the construction, setup, and commissioning of the training shop .
- Recommend appropriate safety procedures, ventilation requirements, equipment storage, and shop operating procedures.
- Support the selection, procurement, installation, and setup of training equipment, tools, appliances, and materials.
- Ensure the training shop supports applicable TSSA requirements and effective hands-on learning.
- Support the preparation, submission, and follow-up of TSSA and Ministry of Colleges and Universities applications, documentation, inspections, and other requirements necessary for program approval and registration.

Instruction & Student Success

- Deliver engaging classroom, laboratory, and practical instruction for Gas Technician 3 & 2 students.
- Facilitate technical demonstrations and hands-on practical training sessions.
- Teach students proper installation, servicing, troubleshooting, maintenance, and safety procedures related to gas-fired equipment.

Qualifications

- Minimum 10+ years of industry experience as a Gas Technician.
- Valid TSSA Gas Technician 1 (G1) Licence required.
- Minimum 3+ years experience in teaching, instructor, or apprenticeship training experience is required.
- Experience developing curriculum, lesson plans, or instructional materials is an asset.
- Robust knowledge of TSSA regulations, Ontario codes, gas-fired appliances, installation practices, troubleshooting, and safety requirements.
- Experience planning or establishing technical training workshops is required.
- Excellent communication, presentation, organizational, and interpersonal skills.




- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and learning management systems is considered an asset.

Work Schedule: The successful candidate will be expected to manage their time effectively and meet project milestones, deliverables, and deadlines as established by the College.

Pay: $40.00-$45.00 per hour
