Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook food according to recipes, menu specifications, portion standards, and quality expectations.
- Set up and stock the assigned station before service.
- Ensure all ingredients are properly prepared, labelled, stored, and readily available.
- Maintain consistent food quality, taste, temperature, portion size, and presentation.
- Prepare menu items accurately and efficiently during busy service periods.
- Monitor cooking times and temperatures to ensure food is properly and safely prepared.
- Communicate with the Chef regarding orders, shortages, special requests, and operational issues.
- Follow all food safety, hygiene, sanitation, and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary workstation throughout the shift.
- Properly clean and sanitize cooking equipment, utensils, work surfaces, and other kitchen areas.
- Monitor food levels and communicate when ingredients or supplies need to be replenished.
- Assist with receiving, storing, rotating, and dating food products using proper FIFO procedures.
- Minimize food waste and use ingredients efficiently.
- Assist with food preparation, prep lists, and other kitchen duties as directed.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of leftovers and prepared foods.
- Assist other kitchen team members when required to maintain smooth and efficient service, including dishwashing.
- Report equipment problems, food quality concerns, safety hazards,
or maintenance issues to the appropriate supervisor.
- Follow established opening, closing, and cleaning procedures.
- Maintain a professional and respectful working relationship with coworkers and other departments.
- Perform other reasonable duties as assigned by the Chef or Kitchen Manager.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a line cook, prep cook, or in a commercial kitchen is preferred.
- FoodSafe certification, or willingness to obtain certification, as required by applicable regulations.
- Knowledge of basic food preparation, cooking methods, portion control, and kitchen equipment.
- Ability to follow recipes, standardized procedures, and presentation standards.
- Strong understanding of food safety, sanitation, and proper food-handling practices.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Good organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a kitchen team.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to food quality and consistency.
- Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with kitchen and service staff.
- Physically able to stand for extended periods and safely lift, carry, and move kitchen supplies and equipment up to 50 pounds.
- Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- A positive, professional attitude and commitment to providing excellent guest service.
Job Type: Part time Pay: $18.25-$20.85 per hour
