Position Overview
Reporting to the Manager, Facility Maintenance, the Maintenance Engineer is responsible for the repair, maintenance, and operation of building systems and equipment to support the safe and efficient operation of the Centre. This role contributes to preventative maintenance programs and responds to operational needs to ensure the reliable performance of all building systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform maintenance, repair, and alteration of building systems, HVAC, and service equipment using a variety of hand and machine tools
- Operate and maintain equipment including forklifts, scrubbers, boilers, pumps, and food and beverage equipment
- Conduct routine and preventative maintenance inspections; respond to emergency service calls as required
- Complete basic estimates and material take-offs; identify and request required parts and supplies
- Perform Shift Engineer duties and operate equipment as required
- Ensure all work is completed in compliance with safety standards, policies, and applicable legislation
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition
- Strong guest service focus with the ability to support a positive experience for guests, vendors, and colleagues
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum five (5) years of hands-on experience directly operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing building systems and mechanical equipment within a commercial, institutional, or industrial facility
- High school diploma supplemented by technical, mechanical, or trade-related training
- Valid Province of Manitoba Power Engineer's Certificate
- Demonstrated hands-on experience operating and maintaining commercial HVAC, hydronic, plumbing, electrical, and building automation systems
- Proven ability to independently diagnose, troubleshoot, and perform repairs on complex mechanical equipment, including pumps, air handling units, boilers, chillers, and associated control systems
- Practical experience performing preventative and corrective maintenance, completing work orders, and supporting the ongoing lifecycle maintenance of building equipment
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply mechanical, electrical, and building system drawings, schematics, and technical documentation when troubleshooting or completing repairs
- Hands-on experience with building automation and DDC systems; familiarity with Honeywell XL 5000 and Delta DDC systems would be considered an asset
- Experience performing building operations and maintenance within a large public, commercial, hospitality, healthcare, educational, industrial, or event facility
- Ability to assess operational issues, determine an appropriate course of action, and complete work safely and effectively with minimal supervision
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including lifting, climbing ladders, working at heights, and accessing mechanical and equipment areas
- Strong organizational, troubleshooting, problem-solving, and teamwork skills
- Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices and established maintenance procedures
- Committed to supporting exceptional guest experiences through proactive facility maintenance and responsive service delivery
