Job Summary The Maintenance Manager is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the maintenance team, as the overall strategic leadership and administration of all maintenance operations. This role is accountable for effectively managing, developing, and supporting a high-performing maintenance team to ensure reliable operation of production and facility equipment.

The Maintenance Manager ensures all maintenance activities are performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company policies and procedures, as well as applicable legislation, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) requirements, and Ontario Electrical Safety Regulations.

This position is responsible for driving continuous improvement initiatives, reducing downtime, and ensuring timely communication of operational updates and risks to senior management and relevant department leaders.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance Operations & Supervision

- Supervise, schedule, and support the maintenance team to ensure productive daily operations.
- Oversee emergency and unscheduled repairs of production equipment.
- Coordinate scheduled maintenance activities, including weekend maintenance and work during production downtime.
- Ensure timely completion of preventive and corrective maintenance tasks.

Technical Troubleshooting & Repairs

- Perform or oversee mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting and repairs.
- Interpret technical documents such as equipment manuals, PLC programs, blueprints, and work orders.
- Diagnose recurring equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
- Replace, repair, and adjust machinery components as required.

Preventive Maintenance

- Develop and maintain an effective preventive maintenance program.
- Schedule and prioritize maintenance work orders and requisitions.
- Ensure all plant equipment and facilities are maintained in optimal working conditions.

Project & Contractor Management

- Coordinate and monitor contractor activities to ensure compliance with project scope and safety standards.
- Maintain project documentation, including updates and communication records.
- Organize drawings and prepare documentation packages for maintenance and project work.




- Support plant shutdown planning and execution, including completion of outstanding projects.

Continuous Improvement

- Collaborate with department managers to reduce downtime, waste, and equipment failure.
- Develop and implement action plans for historically underperforming equipment.
- Promote proactive maintenance strategies and continuous improvement initiatives.

Team Development & Administration

- Assist in training, onboarding, and development of maintenance staff, ensuring timely completion of training records.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and performance management to team members.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, reports, and documentation.
- Manage maintenance inventory, including equipment, manuals, and warranties.

Systems & Compliance

- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Initiate and address safety concerns promptly and effectively.
- Maintain and optimize the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Stay current with new technologies and maintenance best practices.

Financial & Reporting

- Review and approve maintenance-related invoices.
- Maintain effective short-term planning and communicate decisions to senior management.
- Provide timely reports and updates on maintenance activities and issues.

Other Duties

- Perform other duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications & Requirements Education & Experience

- University degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is preferred but not mandatory; a valid trade ticket or equivalent technical qualification will also be considered.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant maintenance and supervisory experience.

Knowledge & Skills

- Strong understanding of occupational health and safety regulations and best practices.
- Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and industrial maintenance systems.
- Familiarity with technical drawings, PLCs,



tools, equipment, and materials.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
- Strong analytical, planning, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Demonstrated integrity, accountability, and confidentiality.

Additional Requirements

- Ability to work under pressure and respond calmly in emergency situations.
- On-call availability and willingness to work overtime as required.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Regular walking and standing.
- Good manual dexterity.
- Exposure to typical industrial/trades hazards.
- Average work week of 44+ hours, including on-call duties.

Compensation At Chapman’s, compensation is guided by a pay-for-performance philosophy that recognizes and rewards individual contributions.

Salary / Wages

$110,000 to $140,000 salary range In addition to wages, employees will be eligible for:
