MANAGER/DIRECTOR of TECHNOLOGY

Function and Purpose

Reporting to the Associate/Deputy Superintendent, Education Services, the Manager or Director of Technology provides strategic and operational leadership for the Division's technology environment in support of teaching and learning, student success, organizational effectiveness, innovation and informed decision making.

The Manager or Director leads the planning, implementation, monitoring and continuous improvement of the Division's technology infrastructure, systems, cybersecurity, digital services and Technology Department. The position provides advice and recommendations to Senior Executive Leadership regarding technology strategy, investments, risks, priorities and emerging trends and works collaboratively with schools and Central Office departments to ensure technology resources are used effectively, responsibly and prudently.

Key Responsibilities The Manager or Director of Technology carries out professional responsibilities in accordance with applicable legislation, Division policies, administrative procedures and established professional standards. Duties include, but are not limited to:

- Develop, implement, monitor and update the Division wide Technology Plan in alignment with the Education Plan and strategic priorities.
- Provide strategic and operational leadership for technology infrastructure, networks, enterprise systems, telecommunications, cloud services, end user computing and technology support.
- Ensure the Division maintains a secure, reliable, resilient and sustainable technology environment.
- Lead cybersecurity and technology risk management, including security controls, access management, vulnerability management, incident response, disaster recovery and business continuity.
- Provide leadership for privacy, data governance, information security and responsible technology practices in collaboration with appropriate Division leaders.
- Lead the responsible evaluation, adoption and governance of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.
- Advise Senior Executive Leadership regarding technology strategy, investments, risks, priorities and emerging trends, translating complex technical matters into clear educational, operational and financial considerations.
- Develop,



manage and monitor Technology Department operating and capital budgets and provide long range recommendations for technology investments and infrastructure.
- Lead technology procurement, contract negotiations and vendor relationships, with consideration for security, privacy, service quality and value for money.
- Oversee major technology projects, including planning, implementation, change management, communication and evaluation.
- Establish and monitor technology standards, service expectations and performance measures and lead continuous improvement of technology services.
- Collaborate with Education Services, school leaders and Central Office departments to ensure technology effectively supports teaching, learning, student success and organizational operations.
- Lead, mentor, supervise and develop Technology Department employees and foster a culture of service, accountability, collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with schools, Central Office, government, vendors and external partners and represent the Division on technology related matters.
- Maintain current knowledge of technology, cybersecurity, privacy, artificial intelligence and trends affecting K–12 education and the public sector.

Education and Experience The Successful Candidate Will Possess

- A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Technology Management, Business Administration or a related discipline. A master's degree is an asset.
- Significant progressively responsible experience in technology, including demonstrated leadership or management experience within a complex, multi site organization.
- Demonstrated experience with strategic technology planning, infrastructure, cybersecurity, enterprise systems and technology risk management.




- Experience leading, supervising and developing professional and technical teams.
- Experience managing operating and capital budgets, technology investments, projects, procurement and vendor relationships.
- Knowledge of privacy, information security, access to information, records management and data governance within a public sector environment.
- Experience with artificial intelligence and emerging technologies is an asset.
- Experience in K–12 education or the broader public sector is an asset.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

- This position will be on either the Manager or Director grid, depending on education, experience, and qualifications.
