Manager of Clinical Services – 0.5 FTE

MacGillivray Guest Home is seeking a dedicated, knowledgeable, and collaborative Manager of Clinical Services to join our management team.

Position Summary The Manager of Clinical Services is responsible for supporting the effective management and oversight of the Nursing Department within a long-term care environment. This position provides leadership to Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), and Continuing Care Assistants (CCAs) and works closely with the Director of Clinical Services to ensure the delivery of safe, compassionate, person-centred care.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong clinical leadership, sound judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage the day-to-day complexities of a long-term care environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide leadership, direction, and support to nursing and care staff, including RNs, LPNs, and CCAs.
- Support the Director of Clinical Services in the overall management of clinical services and nursing operations.
- Ensure clinical policies, procedures, standards, and best practices are consistently followed.
- Monitor and promote quality of care, resident safety, infection prevention and control, documentation, and regulatory compliance.
- Provide clinical guidance and support to staff and assist with complex resident care situations.
- Support performance management, attendance management, coaching, corrective action, and disciplinary processes as required.
- Work collaboratively with employees, physicians, allied health professionals, residents, families, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.




- Maintain a strong understanding of the collective agreement, union rules, and applicable labour relations practices, ensuring that workplace processes and decisions are consistent with negotiated agreements and organizational policies.
- Participate in and support labour relations matters, including union discussions and investigations as required.
- Assist with staffing, scheduling, workload management, and responding to operational needs.
- Participate in investigations, incident follow-up, risk management, and development of corrective action plans.
- Lead and/or participate in clinical and organizational committees and ensure follow-up on committee recommendations and action items.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, respectful workplace practices, and effective communication across the Nursing Department.
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding resident, employee, medical, clinical, and organizational information.
- Assist with the implementation and evaluation of quality improvement initiatives and clinical programs.
- Ensure appropriate communication and follow-up regarding resident care concerns, incidents, and changes in resident status.
- Support education, orientation, mentoring, and ongoing professional development of nursing and care staff.
- Participate in the development, review, and implementation of policies and procedures.




- Perform other clinical and management duties as assigned by the Director of Clinical Services.

Qualifications

- Current registration in good standing with the appropriate professional regulatory body.
- Previous experience in long-term care, nursing leadership, or a clinical management role.
- Strong knowledge of long-term care clinical practices, resident care standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated knowledge of labour relations, collective agreements, and working within a unionized environment.
- Robust leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and respond effectively to changing operational demands.
- Experience with performance management, conflict resolution, investigations, and staff coaching considered an asset.
- Excellent clinical judgment and ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong computer skills and ability to work with electronic documentation and administrative systems.
- Commitment to resident-centred care, teamwork, professionalism, and continuous quality improvement.

Status: Management – Non-Union

Reports to: Director of Clinical Services

Schedule: Alternating weeks of three 8-hour shifts and two 8-hour shifts. The schedule is subject to change based on organizational and operational demands.
