About us
Urban International School (UIS) is a private high school in Toronto inspected by the Ontario Ministry of Education in Ontario, Canada. Over the last decade, we have offered specialized academic courses that are designed for students who wish to pursue higher education in Canada and around the world. Based on the program students wish to pursue in post-secondary school, UIS prepares a customized study plan that underlies one of our four streams: Engineering, Science/Math, Business, Arts or College.
Most of our graduates are accepted in prestigious universities such as the University of Toronto, University of British Columbia, McGill University, among many other Canadian and international universities.
UIS has a friendly and dedicated team of Ontario-certified teachers who teach courses from Grade 7 through Grade 12 to a diverse student body, from Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and South America.
About the Position
We are currently seeking a motivated, student-centred teacher to join our teaching team in Toronto. This is a casual, on-call position that has potential to grow to a full-time role. The successful candidate will be on-call to come in when a teacher is absent. This position will be directly supervised by the principal. This position may require a phone call in the early morning.
Key Responsibilities
Classroom Management & Support
- Follow and implement lesson plans, classroom activities, and instructions provided by the regular teacher.
- Provide clear instruction and guidance to students while maintaining continuity of learning.
- Establish and maintain a positive, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.
- Manage classroom behaviour using appropriate and consistent strategies.
- Take attendance and maintain accurate classroom records as required.
- Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, lunch, recess,
or other assigned duties.
- Ensure students follow school policies, classroom expectations, and safety procedures.
- Respond appropriately to student questions and provide assistance with classwork when needed.
- Adapt instruction or classroom activities when necessary to meet students' needs.
- Communicate relevant classroom or student concerns to school administration and/or the regular teacher.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and school matters.
- Report any accidents, injuries, safety concerns, or significant behavioral incidents according to school procedures.
- Leave the classroom organized and provide the regular teacher with a brief summary of the day's activities, student participation, and any notable incidents.
- Support a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive school environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned by school administration.
Qualifications & Skills
- Previous experience working with children or youth is an asset.
- Robust communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage a classroom effectively and professionally.
- Ability to follow lesson plans and adapt to changing circumstances.
- Patience, flexibility, reliability, and sound judgment.
- Ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds and with varying learning needs.
- Commitment to student safety, well-being, and academic success.
- Relevant teaching credentials, education, or experience as required by the school or applicable jurisdiction.
- Current background screening and other required certifications may be required.
Job Types: Full time, Permanent Pay: $25.00-$30.00 per hour
